The monies paid towards finding and administering a bow and arrow to knock him out came to over £35k, the amount Cecil brought in as a tourist attraction amounted to over £40k a week, although in this case Cecil was an accident, there does seem to be an income from doing this that the game reserves encourage, so to be able to afford the help and care the animals need after being shot at

An excellent metaphor for the problem of global capitalism maybe.

An excellent metaphor for the problem of global capitalism maybe. Surely it is the opposite. Had Cecil been privately owned you can be sure as hell he would have been better protected if he had indeed been bringing in 40k per week. Furthermore, his owner would have charged a hell of a lot more than 35k to shoot a 2m per year asset. Last given that the asset was, in essence, stolen then destroyed, his owner would likely be seeking and prosecuting the shooter and his assistants for the illegal hunt. In all likelihood a punishment far more severe and likely than any outcome pursued by the Zimbabwean government.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

Personally I don't get the whole trophy hunting thing. If you are not going to eat it, why bother?

If it was a Communist metaphor, the Lion would have had a trial, been shot and then all reference to Cecil would have been changed to show him as a enemy of the working class.

Take Walt the dentist back to Zimbabwe, shoot him in the leg with a crossbow and let him wander about for two days bleeding to death. Then let a couple of tigers 'hunt' him down. Feckin hate dentists at the best of times.
