Swindle !

I used to love watching him play.

He wasn't adverse to giving it back to centre halves either... I can remember him having a fight with a Boro defender for the majority of the match back then. Proper fisticuffs.

He had his critics too. There was this bloke that stood behind me on the Holmesdale that always shouted out "You're a handbag Swindlehurst"... it used to p*ss me off bigtime and one week I went up to him and offered him out... LOL

Swindle scored an amazing goal v Ipswich in 1981 (Eagles have landed game) right in front of me... a right foot volley that screamed in the net. Still think it is the best goal I've seen at Selhurst and I've seen a few.

Any other Swindle fans?

Swindles was a top man,my mates grandad was his doctor at Elmers End and he used to give us tickets, some pretty big games as well, encluding the burnley game in 1979 and brighton away that year.
His wife was pregnant at the time with his daughter.....blimey she must be in her 30's now!!

I used to love his marauding powerful runs, once he got going he was like a tank charging through......or thats what it seemed like to a small lad standing down the front of the new stand.

Swindle was in 75 to qute my dad "a carthorse" but four years later he was a superb forward. Strong with a good football brain and the technique to go with it. Venables was a brilliant coach back then and Swindle proved it.

Swindle was a sheer class striker for us as far as I`m concerned Hoof.
Second only to Wrighty in my book. A bloody close second too.

Is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour? [Link]

Used to teach PE at my school when I was about 7! (I'm 20 now...)

I was his favourite purely for the fact I was Palace.

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

In the mid 1970s I used to be a paperboy in Forestdale. One Sunday I delivered papers to a flat not far from the Forestdale shops and guess who was painting the front door - Dave Swindlehurst. The previous day I was cheering him on from the Holmesdale! At the time it was surreal!

Forestdale seemed to be where a lot of the Palace players used to live. I used to see the Hinshelwoods (Martin used to walk his dog frequently). Simon Rodger lived next door to my mum for a few years. He even injured himself walking his dog when his foot went down a hole and he twisted his ankle in a field off Featherbed lane.

Around that time Neil Adams and Sharron Davies lived on Forestdale and so did Kate Moss and her family also!

Supporting Crystal Palace since 19.45 on 29th August 1972 (approximately)!

I thought Swindle served us well!. He always had a go at everything and gave 100%. There are not too many players with Swindle's determination and I would have him in my team any time.
