I note there's much justified outrage on another thread about Danny Murphy's brusque dismissal of Palace last night on the subject of Eze.
Essentially he said that Eze was too good for us and that he would be with a Champions League club next season.
So lets examine that.
Would Murphy have been so adamant after the recent Man City game when Eze was anonymous and substituted or some of the previous games where Eze was often caught in possession in dangerous areas for the team?
The point I'm making is that Murphy is basing his appraisal in one game in isolation in a very simplistic analysis which does him no credit.
Eze was outstanding yesterday and is capable of having outstanding games.
It's noteworthy yesterday though that he was given freedom of the park with no opponent going near him.
He picked the ball up with his back to goal or on the half turn and was free to do as he pleased.
I would contrast this with the Man City game where he received the ball in similar positions and was crowded out at every turn.
In recent seasons I seem to recall that Eze's best games have been against lesser teams.
Somebody will have to remind me if he has really excelled against a top team?

Don't get me wrong, I think Eze is a brilliant player.
This is more about the knee jerk and lazy punditry of an ex player based on one game.

Well said. It was an extraordinary statement. Has got his knife out for Palace because he thinks we did a dirty on Roy?

Couldn't agree more, the lad is brilliant on a good day,but l have no time for the punditry on MOTD anyway, they constantly harp on about Olise and Eze going but l question that, why leave a team they are happy in and now playing well with the possibility of a really exciting future under there new manager,it has to be better than sitting on the bench half the time at one of the mega clubs, here's hoping anyway, leave the MOTD miseries to there pontificating rubbish!!!

That's fair but I think there's a wider point in that this happens whenever we get a player who has something about him - the various talking heads start going on about them moving to a Champions League club (not Celtic obviously) since they're patently too good for us.
Of course there is a hierarchy among clubs and players want to move as high up it as they can, and their agents will be all for it too, but this dismissive attitude grates.
The hope is always that the better players buy into a manager's methods and vision and with OG there's a chance that may happen.
A faint hope admittedly.

I thought yesterday was actually the perfect demonstration of why he may get overlooked by the top 4 and likely will be by England in the summer.

So much of what he does is so, so good .... but his finishing isn't at the very top level.

As soon as that ball fell to De Bruyne on the corner of our box in the City game, I said 'this is going top corner'. They're so clinical. Foden and Palmer both have multiple hat tricks this calendar year. After the chances Liverpool missed against us, half their side got dropped for the Fulham game. There is no tolerance for missing chances at the very top level.

Eze was fantastic yesterday but Pep would be asking him how he only scored one. The one at the start of the second half was only about 8 yards out and Fabianki's been able to get to it. The one just before he got taken off went miles wide. Dragged quite a few wide from the edge of the box in the first half. He should've had, deserved even, a hat-trick.

I think Eze will stay, at least another year, and I think it's Olise those clubs will be really, really interested in. 7 goals and 4 assists in 900 minutes of PL football this season for Olise. Remarkable. For comparison, Eze has 8 goals, 3 assists in 1700 minutes of PL football.

I think you are right there. My god is he good, but he is probably too wasteful for the very top....at present.

For me there is also a question mark about general consistency.

But when he is good, he's unplayable.

Eze is the most naturally talented English player since Gazza, but he needs decent players to play with, Olise, Mateta, Wharton and Munoz certainly are, and Doucoure will be, i think he comes into the Le Tissier bracket, what he can do is unteachable, when and if he leaves, PSG, Barcelona or Madrid would be ideal, he will, as i have said, be one of the worlds best players by the time he is 27/28

i thought Murphy's comment was a tad lazy but justified.

Eze is a class above our team, when on form. I think Murphy should have mentioned that he can be inconsistent etc, but if he maintains that form Champions League teams will come knocking.

Maybe he hasn't done it against the big teams, but you can imagine their team talk, especially when Olise was injured - stop Eze and you stop Palace.

I think Wilf had the same issue. Big teams would focus on stopping him.

Why are we listening to a self confessed ‘Coke’ ‘ lover anyway...he didn’t exactly excel as a midfield player.. a few levels down from Eze I would say...

I love watching Eze play, even if only on the TV. Without wanting to appear too poetic about it, his play is so fluid and stylish it's mesmerising, and whilst he does sometimes lose possession too easily and miss a few too many goalscoring opportunities, I really don't mind at all. I just want to watch him play.

I too was annoyed with Murphy for writing us off as unworthy of him and, although I expect him to develop his career elsewhere at some stage, I fully expect Mr Parish to pull out all the stops to keep him and Olise at least for a full season under Ollie's tutelage.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

That's one of the most outrageous things I've ever read.
