My 10p worth.

I have read on here all the comments about how great it has been being in the EPL for 10 years and it is, but surely at some point we need to aim a bit higher. 10 years and we are still the poor relation in the league. Other teams are passing us by. Why?

SP obsession with a new stand is now starting to cost us on a weekly basis. What is the point of having this new stand if we are back playing Millwall on a Tuesday night with 15,000 people if we are lucky. There comes a time when the first team has to come first and that time is now. January we desperately need some new blood. Someone or a couple of players to lift the spirits of not just us the fans but the other players. If we don't can anybody really blame Olise, Guehi, Anderson etc wanting out. Who would want to be involved in the team performance we saw last night.

I think Roy massively benefitted from the team that PV had put together that had actually got its back bone from Roys first stint. All he had to do was add his structure plus the fact that all the really tough games had been and gone under PV and it created a magic couple of months where we all forgot about the dross at the end last time (me included).

Roy I think has had his day. This isn't the football from even 5-10 years ago. Look at Bournemouth. Progressive under a new manager. Look at Luton and Wolves. Even when they lose they at least look like a team. We are so slow. You can see half the players have gone. Roy has lost them. How would you feel if you were a centre midfielder (there were 3 senior midfielders on the bench last night) and a centre back is picked ahead of you. Come on its not rocket science. In the same way we needed a change under PV the time has come to make some sort of change now. There is no way Pulis or the fat man don't get a tune out of what Roy has to hand. (no I am not saying I want either of them back).

I don't know who we would get but to be fair I had never heard of half the managers doing well now or where they came from, there must be others out there worth a shot. It can't be any worse than what we have now (and no I do not think we have any right to beat Luton and Bournmouth but we should at least be competing with them).

Roy is never going to play the youngsters. EVER. He has his ways. No matter how good a player is or may be. Shape shape shape is everything. Tracking back. Defend. This is fine when we win 1-0 but it is dire to watch and at the moment we are getting beaten. He is just not interested in somebody untested like Franca. Somebody must have seen something in him and he can't possibly be worse than JPM. What was the bloody point of sticking him on yesterday and we still conceded another goal.

We must sign another right back. Not a loan. not a stop gap. Sign a bloody right back. Give some help to the rest of the team. Get a striker in. Get a some cover in. It is beyond a joke. We can all see it how the hell are the board not.

SP and Dougie will be planning for next year as we speak. They'll have managerial targets and are probably already speaking to them. They're good businessmen - and good businessmen plan ahead. No doubt they brought Roy in to secure another season of PL status (which I still believe we will)...then next year should see the introduction of a younger more progressive manager. This should coincide with the introduction of players like Franca, who will have had a year or so to settle in.

I'm almost certain (with nothing to back it up) that's what's happening.

Which is entirely irrelevant when comparing the scoring rate of players who all play in that division.

Wow

If it's that easy, who's top scorer in league 2, let's just sign him in Jan.

Schlupp has essentially been a bit part player for the last 10 years with both us and Leicester. Never a regular, often used to cover injuries and because of his versatility.
With Olise injured and Zaha leaving having him as the only LW option for the first 3 to 4 months of the season is bizarre. His confidence is shot.

Clyne was a decent stop gap option when AWB left. We are now 4 years on and we have the same stop gap. Unbelievable.

Richards in CM as a stop gap away from home made some sense. Playing him at home was a bizarre selection - he looked lost and can't believe he wasn't subbed at half time.

Hughes should be a fixture with Doucoure injured, however, he has been woeful recently. The fact that Richards started in front of him should be a wake up call. However, he is just so slow not sure he can improve that much. He's 28 but plays like he was 38!

Schlupp bit part player nice joke for us every week his names on the starting line up and has been for all Roys years at the club.

The only times he may not start is in cup games or if he is out for injury/personal reasons otherwise he always starts under Roy.

You have shown either are not following Palace on regular basis or here get a reaction from others.

Richards is not really a CM he is a CB.

As is the case with Roy he doesn't use players strengths and wants to drop people into his system expecting them to all do it which is why Hughes at times looks so poor. (He is average Prem player you have in squad)

I was at this game the vibe in the ground was not good and didn't help with it being cold plus the transport problems (With that disgraceful display plus many other games be how the manager can expect fans to get behind them shows he has no clue)

If we don’t sign a striker in January we deserve to fail. This Right Back & Striker (lack of) is costing us. I also think ‘Rabbit in the Highlights’ Mitchell has been found out as being distinctly average which is a shame because we all had high hopes for him. He very rarely has any end product when he ventures forward and looks utterly petrified when defending most of the time. I wonder whether it was a slight muscle strain (as reported) or an anxiety attack that made him depart the other night.

Add a Left Back to the list.

Firstly I have never booed Palace and I hope I never will. Bournemouth was awful but you have to take the rough with the smooth if you are a fan and sometimes there is plenty of rough!
Bottom line the squad is too small, the Club didn’t get the players it wanted in the summer and we are limited by FFP and how much the shareholders are prepared to invest.
I don’t believe that bringing in a new manager this season will improve anything as he would just inherit Roy’s problems.
On the small squad we had a centre back crisis a few years back so SP must have been aware of the danger but couldn’t do anything about it.
There are a number of players, being paid well, that are now not Premier League squad standard , in my view…..Clyne, Thomkins, Riederwald, Hughes. There is Ferguson who just can’t get fit. There are the youngsters who Roy clearly doesn’t believe are yet strong enough to take the risk with. There are others who should be just squad players….Schlupp, Ward and Mateta. That is a lot of salary for players that aren’t up to it!
I think playing Richard in midfield shows how desperate Roy is….he can’t trust Jairo there because he can’t win a challenge, he can’t trust Hughes there because he is incapable of tracking his runner, and he doesn’t think Ozoe is yet up to the challenge. Richard is a premier league standard centre half not a midfielder or full back.
I am not expecting more than 3 points by the end of this year and SP is then going to have to be really pragmatic in the January window if he can’t offload some players.
A tough year for Eagles but I am here for the ride.

Up the Palace.

You do have the rough with the smooth. But it just feels very rough atm.

Roy is taking a lot of stick, and he deserves some.

We do need to understand as fans that he sees these players every day, so if he picks Richards as CDM or Clyne as LB etc its because he trusts the others even less.

However we play with no desirable tempo or style, and when we go 1-0 down we do more of the same, usually with JMP subbed in. I'm desperate to see us do something drastically different. even stick Richards up top and pump balls up at him. Anything to avoid limping to another loss. That is on Roy.

Ultimately the buck can only stop with Parish and Doug. When fit we have a competitive 11. But are now in a position with no LB or CDM against potentailly 3 of the toughest games of the season.

We cant cry about injuries, every team has them.
