Interesting memories from 1969-70 season.

Hynd was signed alongwith Gerry Queen and Per Bartram from Scotland.
Bert Head's relied on signing players from Scotland after our first promotion to top flight in 1969.

I still remember the first match Vs Man U and we drew 2-2 against a team with the Charlton, Best, Morgan, Kidd.

Unforgettable, and speaking of John Sewell we played Cardiff in the League Cup the following Tuesday night if my memory stands up and beat them 3-1, Sewell scoring two penalties.

Good old Borge ! I think we signed him from Hamilton.
Other Scots that was signed were John Loughlan and Tony Taylor.

I think Charlie Cooke was Scottish too, not that we'll ever really think of him as "Palace" rather than Chelsea.

How did I miss him out !
I think that Cooke has been in the USA for several years.

Cooke, Gerry Queen (Florida, last I heard) and John Sewell (California, ditto) were/are all in America. I met Queen (some years ago now) through a mutual friend (also an ex-footballer) and I've corresponded once or twice with Sewell too. I don't know if it's true of all the clubs they played for but both very much identify with Palace.

I might be wrong (Won't be the first time !) but I have a feeling that Micky Droy also moved out to the USA.

I have just been speaking to a friend who knows Charlie Cooke - they played together many times for Chelsea in the 'Football Combination'. He said that Charlie was a lovely unassuming fella. My friend has a signed copy of Cooke's book which was published a few years ago.

Stirred the grey cell's,because when I was a nipper
Gerry Queen and John Loughlan helped or ran sunday sides.

Which was brilliant giving little tip's on the game, timing tackles, making run's.killing the ball.

So I was thinking are any of the present team, squad involved in any local team's??

For me watching my heroes on a Saturday and to be stood along-side them the next day,Well t'was a dream.
