Roy will leave at the end of the year and I'll be sorry to see him go but the time will be right.
There's a bit of a contradiction in that loyalty in players is highly valued but manager loyalty in return can be seen as a lack of ambition to say the least. Maybe if we only had one youngster who was outstanding candidate instead of a few possible candidates Roy would be more willing to put him in.
On a positive note didn't Michael Olise take his penalty well - it was nice to see him smiling.

1. Re Roy and the preparation, the players seemed to recognize that the plan was the right one for a depleted Palace team to play Citeh.

2. Re Ozoh, spot on Neillo. I spent a lot of the game trying to watch his performance because I rate him as one of the few Academy players with a realistic chance of making it in the PL. He grew into the game and his physicality came more and more to the fore. There are those clambering for him to start on Thursday. I don't expect him to as I think Hughes will be back and Richards will continue as a DM., but I do think he'll get some more minutes off the bench. It was great to see him come over to celebrate with us fans.

3. Re Franca, he has clearly been listening to what he needs to do. His cameo was very promising; some lovely dribbling and a great cross field pass to Olise and a decent cross from the right which eventually led to the penalty. He'll get some more cameos, I'm sure.

This is a very astute note - so I hope you don't mind me pointing out it's not clambering but clamouring.

The right place at the right time

My first trip to the Etihad today. The first 75 minutes were what I expected them to be except for the 5 minutes or so before Mateta scored. We had a rare period of possession and we began singing:

"We've got the ball; we've got the ball.." before the inevitable "we've lost the ball; we've lost the ball", but them more periods of "we've got the ball". And all of a sudden, the ball was in the net and we were back in the game.

The fans were magic; and when Olise slotted home that penalty we went wild with disbelieving joy.

I was pleased to see Ozoh given his chance. He fitted in well IMO and grew into the game. I've said before that he seems the nearest to being ready for the 1st team squad and today he showed it against the Champions. Hopefully he'll get more minutes as the season goes on.

As for Franca, his cameo was promising. on the two or three occasions he got the ball he tried to run at and through City and with some success. He seemed to worry them.

All in all, a good day out and a satisfying walk back to Piccadilly station and journey home, basking in the knowledge that we now have 2 wins and 2 draws in our last 6 visits to the Etihad

Superb.. sounds a bit better than a good day out. Yesterday are what it's all about as far as Premier League football goes for a club of our size and all the sweeter when things haven't been going your way.

Roy and the players deserve massive credit for believing and digging in. Olise looked the coolest man in the stadium and a day that Ozoh wont forget either. Interesting that his physicality seems to be thing that most of the decent judges on here seem to think give him a chance.

If we played all our games in Manchester we'd be in Europe no bother.

Just seen the highlights on sky. City's second is hand ball. It comes off a players elbow before being lashed in but they just looked at offside!!!!

More big club bias to add to Edisons yellow. That was a straight red tackle to an outfield player so why not a keeper.

Its becoming a joke now.

Not grammar, malapropism. Some times we don't know the word used is wrong, and others laugh at us. Spelling mistakes and grammatcal errors are fine to be ignored on a website like this, but it is kind to inform someone of a misused word. I had visions of fans clambering over each other to get to the dugout and tell Roy to play Ozoh! Which was laughable. A bit like saying Plaistow Eagle is an idiom. Funny on a different level.

With reference to the moans about Roy not giving the youngsters a chance he did play Franca as a sub along with some other youngsters and rightly bemoaned the lack of game changing effect they had in that game.
I think with Franca given his age, the change of country and change of language and lack of previous career games it was always going to take time for him to settle. The easy option would have been to have played Franca more often (as many managers would have been tempted to given his price tag) but you have to respect Roy and Ray. They have been in the game long enough to know when a player is ready to play and make a positive contribution rather than be ineffective get the crowd on your back and your confidence dented.
I remember Olise had to earn his spot through impressive substitute appearances coming on for Ayew last season. It has not done his development any harm.

Nice to read a solid common sense post, they are getting fewer in number.

I have watched that a few times , and thought as you do. From the very first view. Left it because I was hearing nothing from pundits, media, or even the sharpe eyed amongst us.
I still think I’m not seeing things, just can not understand the all round silence.
