I know this is going to be a very left field suggestion, but I'd like to see Gary White get a chance. When I was singing Graham Potter's praises at Ostersunds I was told he was too untested at the "top" level, bound to fail etc. He went on to shut everyone up, and is now linked with the Spurs job. White has the adaptability and faith in youth to really do something at Palace.

In all his national team jobs he's managed to take unfancied sides and get results they've never been able to match before or since, while also overhauling the domestic systems in those countries. At club level, he's always ended up at a team with either no money or already looking doomed to get relegated, and saved them each time.

At Shanghai Shenxin they were in real trouble and managed to stay up, only to sack him for a more famous manager who overspent and saw the side fold a year later. His time at Tokyo Verdy was marred by a lack of board backing and a slow start, and they parted ways just as his methods were starting to pay off. At Nantong Zhiyun he took over a side midway through the season, to survival on the last day - beating the champions - before being replaced by a popular Chinese player getting his first job in a bid to boost support - they barely survived last season once again.

At Suzhou Dongwu he'd actually been appointed while football was on hold, and as such was able to build a team from scratch - unlike other teams in the division who have players like Joao Silva(ex-Everton) and Nikola Durdic (ex-Augsburg), his side is all domestic and most recruitment came from the youth teams, and after taking them from bottom of their relegation group to winning it last year, he has them fighting for promotion this year. He's a coach that knows how to adapt to the players he has and get the best out of them, all while bringing in the youngsters, which is what Palace need. There's also the fact he's on the FA's radar and was interviewed for the England U21s job before, losing out to Aidy Boothroyd because the FA wanted someone more recognisable in charge.

Firstly, thank you Roy for giving us stability on very limited means for the past four seasons. I wish you all the very best for the future and I am so pleased as a Croydon boy you were able to have your last managerial job at the club you supported and played for in your youth. We owe you a great debt. No manager has kept us in the top league for four seasons before.

However, and this is no fault of yours, we have a large number of players out of contract at the end of the season and seemingly little to spend on investing in the squad.

We need investment on a significant scale if we are going to remain a Premier League outfit and, as the only South London team in the division this should not be too difficult, but SP will have to be prepared to step aside and allow new owners with the 'Leicester mentality' to take over. Not easy to find at all!

So, if we are to remain a Premier League club after next season we need to find an experienced manager who can bring the youth through and add to the squad cheaply from outside.

ManUre and the Arse have both illustrated perfectly how difficult it is to replace experienced managers. I
certainly don't think that Howe or Lampard will keep Palace up next season. Lampard does not have the man management abilities and Howe's teams cannot defend.

We need a Bielsa type character IMO. Somebody with a lot of football experience and the ability to lead and motivate a limited squad of players.

I don't have enough inside football knowledge to know who this is, but surely this is what Freedman is paid to do.

Btw. I would have Popovic and Jedinak back at Palace in a flash as part of any coaching team. Whether we like it or not Aussies are winners. Pardew's personal insecurities were responsible for breaking up a squad that had way outperformed its ability, and his sidelining of Jedinak, Speroni etc. was unforgiveable.

Find a manager who can work with these guys, with the eventual aim of Jedi becoming manager and I think our PL future will be secure.

'Please, please me', and go to to the Cavern of football on Sunday and wreck the bindippers dreams of Champions' League football and allow Roy to retire on a high!

Any updates Dazza?

When do your sources tell you the announcement will be?

My guess is if and when Swansea are out of the Championship play offs. If they win the play offs then very soon after the final.

Not long now till an announcement we shall see if what I said all those weeks ago is correct?

Then maybe people will give me some credit.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

As I've mentioned in other threads, I'm sure this was all sorted some time ago. I think Roy is being allowed a gracious departure, with an announcement regarding the new manager coming next week, probably Monday or Tuesday. Let's keep our fingers crossed for an interesting summer, with some new signings and an exciting and successful season to follow.

I'm not so sure - I'm sure that there is a preferred option - and if certain reports are to be believed - there are 2.
If Lamps was that option - and he has agreed - then now that the Arse game is out the way, there's no real reason to hold off the announcement.

However, I suspect they are delaying as the list of candidates includes some that are involved in the Champ playoffs, so are as yet to make a decision/hear a definitive answer.

What and who did you say it’s going to be? One of one or one of two?

If my memory serves me well, Dazza asserted a few weeks back that Lampard would be the 'chosen one'.

He's the OP of this thread, with the only words 'Frank Lampard'

Well, I have to say that I think Dazza may have been correct in his early forecast.

In both The Times and Daily Mail today are two page interviews with Mr Lampard telling us how keen he is to return to management and how much he enjoyed his time at Derby and Chelsea.

The articles are basically the result of him being inducted into the PL Hall of Fame, but to me they read like a final page of his CV. In the Mail he told Jamie Redknapp that "Roy Hodgson was amazing" after he had a long conversation with him. As if he was saying, here I am, come and get me.

Could be he wants someone else to come and get him though. Anyway, he sold me. I've been unsure about him coming to Palace, but now I'd like to see Mr Parish bring him in.

The power of the press eh?!

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

As good as Cooper or Ishmael might be, I'd be very concerned about the idea of us waiting for the Championship Play-Offs to conclude before attempting to appoint our new manager.

Even if Swansea or Barnsley agree to our approach and the compensation fee very quickly, we would be elongating the period in which we don't have a manager whilst others are already active in the transfer market. Given that we need to be very busy this summer and the euros will make deals harder, we possibly can't afford to have a vacancy in the dugout for that long. Teams that win the playoffs famously have too little time to do transfer deals before the next season, and we would be operating on the same timescale.

I appreciate that Cooper or Ishamel would perhaps expect to just turn up and coach whatever squad Freedman and Parish can provide, so we could just get on with making signings as of now, ahead of a manager being appointed, but I'd think potential new players will want to know who the manager is before they sign.

For that reason alone we should be looking only at Lampard or Howe, and get one in to start on Monday morning.
