I can only view this from a white persons perspective but it sounds like Black lives matter but only if they are killed by white policeman.

Some people would rather perpetuate division and ignore certain realities.

Of course some police officers put self preservation before everything and have been conditioned to have a lower regard for life that most of us find palatable. Equally they are doing a job that most of us would not do.

Spot on. I think it's racist to ignore the 1000's of crimes committed by blacks on blacks. BLM should be campaigning for better education, there should be government run programmes for communities with high crime rates, we need to change a vast majority of black peoples attitudes to anti intellectuism. Then I think you'll see crime figures fall. The liberal side of me sees two victims to a crime... The perp and his victim.
I love hearing white liberals telling everyone that there isn't a problem with young black males committing violent crimes... Maybe if it were their kids be killed/or going to jail they may change their tune.

In actuality, Texas gun ownership (35.7%) is only slightly above the national average (29.1%). [Link]

What I can tell you, as a Texas resident, is that Texas gun owners typically own multiple guns. I mean lots! My father-in-law has over two dozen, ranging from semi-automatic pistols and various shotguns to an AR-15 assault rifle.

The pistols are for personal protection and for hunting (to put a wounded animal out of its misery). The deer he takes are pests down here (and delicious - he has them butchered and the meat packed and frozen). The shotguns are for hunting deer and game birds. The AR is for hunting, because you do not want to be out on the range without one in case you come across a feral hog. [Link]

He did not say which one he preferred to use on miscreant sons-in-law...

What you do not need for hunting or protection, though, is a 30-round extended clip or a 100-round butterfly clip for said AR.

You make it sound almost normal.

No one needs an assault rifle. Some people just want one.

This is a strawman argument. No one is complaining about the legitimate use of deadly force by police officers. We are complaining about the illegitimate use of deadly force by police officers.

FYI, tasers were introduced to offer a non-lethal alternative to the police. What has actually happened is that the level of use of lethal force has remained unchanged, but now people who would otherwise have been subdued by non-lethal means anyway, also get tasered. If you scroll past all the shooting videos, you'll find a vast library of police tasering people they've already-subdued. "Don't tase me, bro!"

The liberal left (of which I admire on many issues) are as much a threat to black people in the USA as the far right are.
Kids are dying in huge numbers due to gun violence and no one says a word... A white police officer kills a criminal.,, and mass protests are organised. The crime stats for the black community in USA are shocking, but no one protests about that.

This, also, is a strawman, and a weak crutch of the police-apologists. No one is condoning black-on-black violence or ignoring the dreadful statistics in this area. It is murder at a shocking level, and has eff-all to do with police shooting people who are unarmed and/or already subdued.

The rebel barons didn't force King John to sign the Magna Carta because they were concerned about infighting amongst themselves. It was done to protect the barons from the Crown. You cannot control being the victim of a violent criminal, but you sure as hell ought to be able to control being the victim of illegal violence perpetrated on you by the State.

I used to think the same. But a high-powered, bolt action rifle for deer hunting - or a shotgun loaded with bird shot - is pretty much reduced to being a big stick when you're confronted by a hog. That f***er takes some true stopping power.

I do agree, though, that many AR owners have one because of the feel-good factor. But they're heavily used for target shooting, and there's even professional leagues for urban-range competitions for which an AR is a requirement. This is the "sporting" use of guns that has taken over from the need to have a well-regulated militia.

They're here to stay, but restricting the magazine size is a legitimate tool against their lethality. For example, at Sandy Hook, a dozen or so kids were able to escape from a classroom when the shooter had to reload. He had five 30-round clips; imagine how many more kids get to run away if he'd needed fifteen clips to carry his 150-round arsenal, and had to reload fourteen times, not four.

Don't be fooled by those videos of professionals re-loading their pistol in a split-second. They do this once, without stress and with the option of multiple takes. Mass shooters who have not burned through their entire stock have been taken down when reloading; thus, making them reload more often reduces their effectiveness and allows time for an escape or a take-down.

They used a taser on the man in Baton Rouge. On Sean Hannity show, BLM said the amount of violence and death committed by blacks on blacks "wasn't their priority right now"
Factually speaking, police don't shoot black people more than they do people of other races.
Factually speaking black people kill me more people than any other race.
My family in Ohio have zero fear of being killed by police, my aunt does fear my nephew being killed or hurt by mainly (but not entirely) black criminals.
BLM have rallies where they do the stupid chant about "putting wings on pigs" then when police get killed by their members (NY and Dallas). They say nothing to do with us.

Really? Every statistics that I've seen indicates they do - what is the factual evidence that they do not?

I think you're allowing your dislike of BLM get in the way of accepting an obvious truth - of course there are huge issues around the criminal culture in black communities, and of course BLM are hypocritical to seemingly focus only on the police killings, but that doesn't make them wrong on that issue.

A worrying number of black people are being illegally killed by law enforcement, and as Ray highlights below, the camera phone recordings is only now allowing us to see quite how wrong these killings are.

It's purely a numbers game to me... The biggest threat by far to black people is other black people.

The stats for crimes committed by black people are horrendous, remember they make up 13% of the population. For every crime, there's a victim. There is also a young black man going to prison, two families devastated. The link above shows black people aren't more likely to be shot than any other race.

As for BLM... They have a disregard for tackling crime, the only crime that interests them is crime committed by people of a different race to them. Also the cop killing chants are pretty vile.

Its a false argument though, because it presents separate issues. Yes, there is a problem with violence in black America, but that's besides the point when talking about the issue of cops perpetrating excessive lethal force in situations where the use of deadly force is not necessary.

These other issues are besides the point. It doesn't matter who you or your family are afraid of, or that more black people are killed by black people. Its that police officers are flagrantly getting away with flagrant abuse of power.

BLM was set up to deal with this issue, not other issues of the black community, but this specific issue of excessive police brutality against black people.

People start shooting back, and it seems that BLM should be apologising for the actions of people who aren't part of the group, where as the police and sheriffs department, that have shot restrained prisoners avoid any recriminations or apologies. Of course the people who shot those five officers should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Which they will be, which certainly won't be the case of most of the police officers in the cases raised by BLM over the last year or so.

BLM isn't about tackling crimes committed by black people, the US has an entire system of justice that is supposed to deal with that. Its about the injustice faced by the black community by that apparatus of state power, and how it gets away with flagrant abuse of power by its officers.

I would be surprised if however it was just black people on the receiving end of excessive police force in the US - I suspect its poor people in general. Its just that Black America, has an entire civil rights network in place, from its assorted campaigns for equality.

It doesn't matter if the police shoot as many white people as black people, in the same circumstances, they're still shooting people in a manner that should concern any free society.

"Black Lives Matter (BLM) is an activist movement, originating in the African-American community, that campaigns against violence toward black people. "

But stated that black on black violence isn't their concern.
