Benteke is a complete waste of space and we need to get rid of him as soon as possible. If big Sam wants him I hope something can be worked out. Good riddance! And he can take Ayew with him, buy one get one free!

Is the wrong answer.

Unless WBA are either offering us a big loan fee and will cover all his wages, or they are going to buy him for a reasonable fee then I see no point letting him leave now. He's arguably in his best form for at least two years (not saying much I know). I don't think we should offer him a new deal unless his wages reflect his contribution, but he is definitely worth keeping around until his deal runs out in the summer. Personally I'd be more inclined to let Batshuayi go back to Chelsea if that's an option (I'm guessing if that was going to happen he'd have gone back by now though). Ayew can also play wide, which we have zero cover for so I certainly don't think he should go.

Doesn't look like he's going...

And from the clips ive seen, Mateta offers something different from the Benteke role.

With Batsman's and Ayew's poor forms this season and Wickham perpetually injured, it would be wise to keep CB until end of season at least.

Would I renew him? Not at £120K a week, that's for sure. Im guessing he has costs us over £1m per goal/assist so has he been a waste of money? One thing is for sure, his goals when he first came kept us up and gave us all the financials that goes with that.

On balance, we do need to bring in another striker who fits into the Hodgson way of play. Until then I would renew him but not at £120k a week.

Good points ! Would you keep him till the end of the season and let him leave on a free or get his wages of 120k a week off the books and maybe 3 mill transfer fee ? all hypothetical .

The more I think about it, the more a Benteke/Mateta battering-ram partnership appeals to me. They can both hold the ball up well for the likes of Eze, Zaha and Townsend to link up to and, at 6ft 4” are both a threat aerially.

Im not sure Benteke has been a threat aerially for a long time now. And I dont buy into this excuse of ... "yes but he holds it up well". Last time I remember him receiving the ball in the box he controlled it with all the finesse of an 8 year old with a beachball. We've been waiting far too long for him to rediscover his mojo. To continue to pay big money for a striker who doesnt score is madness.

Sorloth is 6' 4", should we have him back too? What a forward line that would be, no need for a midfield, just long hoofs from the back, classy!

Age-wise yes, he's only 39, should fit in easily

this with bells on. People have been making excuses for Benteke for so long it seems like they've forgotten that the primary role of a striker is to score goals. Holding the ball up, tracking back, defending corners are secondary and tertiary, depending on the striker concerned, not a reason to keep him. Shows how bad things have got.

For some reason, I was going through former Palace strikers in my head last night (it was a nice mental exercise!). There were the obvious greats, and the better ones. But even some of the ones that lacked a lot of the technical skills still had endeavour, threat on goal and occasionally goals in their locker. Benteke has none of that in the vast majority of his games.

Sorloth is long gone and was $hite anyway ... Bats and Ayew are not performing whereas Benteke has looked more promising since he's featured in the team. Why on Earth would we loan/ sell any in form player mid season?
