Looking at previous points totals after 17 games it looks very likely that 36 points will suffice this season. So we only need another 14 points. Its extremely unlikely that a team currently higher than 13th will go down with the bottom 5 most likely to provide the 3 that go down. At a push you could include Bournemouth. I think the current bottom 3 will drop and west ham will just stay up.

you often get a team around lower mid table that hit a poor run & drop like a lead balloon.

That's why the Fulham result disappointed me.. they leapfrogged us and have 3 points day light, we win our game in hand, however, and we should feel confident. I hope we get a shock win vs spuds, quicker we get to 30, the quicker we can relax... it's been a weird season... the break hasn't helped at all, it be interesting to see who will benefit from the break - kinda like the covid season and it changed the flow.

Also difficult to fully asses until we see the business done by all teams in the January transfer window.

I think Forest surviving is too radical a proposition atm. They look a bit like a team who have had to sign a whole new squad from Free Agents at the end of a season. So'ton look very dire, I think appointing Jones was a huge mistake and possibly a fatal one. They have the squad but barring Jones being replaced a la Palace of old (hopefully) I think they will be departing. Wolves look like the silent creepers into a relegation candidacy but I think may just have enough. I've also got a feeling the Gary O'Neil honeymoon is over for Bournemouth and they may just make up the final place come May. I would love for it to be Wolves/WHU or Everton. Everton would be my first choice however what I fear is several awakenings over the next few games/weeks where these teams start picking up points... and we start dropping them. Same perennial story then really!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

As has been said the transfer window will make the difference but good players will be reluctant to go to Forest, wolves and saints. As they are deep in trouble. Plus the latter two don't seem to be spending. West ham seem to be in free fall and unless they get rid of Moyes I can see them going close as well. Bournemouth could indeed be the team that drops in to the mire.

I must admit I am having trouble seeing beyond Forest Wolves & Southampton as being prime relegation candidates but with most clubs having 21 / 22 league games still to play (Plus the various cups)its going to be a fairly congested back end to the season which will no doubt throw up a few surprise results -

I know they’ve got money to spend but who will want to go there. And turning them around seems a tall order. Bournemouth Forest & one other for me. Probably Southampton but could be any of several. Still a lot of games left too early to tell.

The next few weeks will give a clearer picture of who is going to struggle after the WC break
And we still need a striker |

We are not even half-way through the campaign. I am thinking depth of squads, injuries, will any of our young academy players come through for example, 22 games to play in the PL is quite a stretch.

In general I find goal difference to be pretty good indicator. Any of the teams hitting midseason with a goal difference of -15 or worse should be worried.
