The thing is - none of these get paid anywhere near as low as a Costa Barrister. Now S****es, Plumbers & Builders, they all earn £15k a year drive the nicest cars & live in big houses!

How they cope is beyond me, heroes treated like donkeys. 35% is nothing, this situation has been going on for many years, I well remember thanking one for treating my son and realising how drained and exhausted he was. Normal people leave a job that does that to them. What on earth could be their motivation to carry on ?

Your solicitor and accountant figures are City rates. You need to be 20 plus years experienced to get anywhere near that elsewhere and will never reach it if you do family, crime, wills etc in law or basic high street accounting work. High pay is a myth partly borne from a time when professionals came from an affluent background, had money to begin with and inherited money and property later. They also sounded posh so assumptions were made.
