Where would you rather be tonight? In Paris? Or in Moscow?

If you live In Ireland they will tell you that video is far right and maybe crucify you for sharing it.

As somebody on the ground, so to speak, what is the atmosphere like?

I certainly don't buy into the 'Civil War' narrative/hysteria of many on the Right but I also see this as potentially breaking in a way in which Macron ends up being essentially told that he either lets the police deal with properly or else they effectively stand down. I have gained a perception (and am always more than happy to have that turned on its head) that the gloves have come off tonight in terms of how the Police are responding but would be fascinated to gain an understanding of how the wider French populace are reacting. I appreciate you cannot speak for France as a whole but given you are saying it is all peaceful where you are, I would guess you get most of your info via the media?

Given Macron publicly called the shooting 'unjustifiable' as his initial response, he kind of fanned the flames a bit at the start, by dis-crediting them.
The suggestion of what Matov puts forward has a big dollop of irony. The police he initially criticised, are now having to clear up his huge mess, with their credibility already in pieces, and Macron's isn't too good I should think.
Macron will probably just let the riots burn itself out, with minimal police action.

Macron is definitely the defining factor here. Long espoused he is the most dangerous Frenchie since Napoleon and is perhaps the most unique manifestation of pure power politicking alive today (that entire scenario with the relationship with his wife is beyond bizzare and one of the primary 'secret' files they are trying to hang Trump with is an alleged CIA analysis of Macron).

Now the Right are guilty at the moment of engaging in the same kind of wishful thinking that the Left did last weekend over the supposed coup in Russia. What is happening in France is just a manifestation of what always happens in France when the ferals decide to use an excuse to destroy s***.

But there are some voices out there saying that the real impact of this is around the relationship the Police have with Government, along with the long-standing tension with the French Military. With it being suggested (and here I must stress I am not 100% convinced of how viable this is/might be) that it is possible there are moves afoot for both institutions to effectively warn Goverment if they don't address the wider problems underlying these constant riots/uprisings then they will perhaps set about taking matters more and more into their own hands. Now I would urge a pinch of salt with this take because there is a lot of hyperbole out there but I do sense that perhaps behind rather ornate French doors, a lot of people have just had about had a gutful of these scrotes.

France used to be famous for corruption. Everyone seems to have forgotten about that. How can anyone look at Macron and vote for that? Then again, there was Sarkozy too. They get the election system they deserve much like we all do. Look into the election system - no one really fully appreciated the scope for corruption. The deals are beyond believable.

And all the Left can do is try and get it canceled. Utter tools. Truly gaining a sense now that the worm is finally beginning to turn.

Yes, very interesting article. Change.org was sending out a petition the other day to revoke the broadcasting licence for GB News, as the sponsor said the station was racist. I assume that there is a body that would decide whether that is the case, so presumably as it's still on air then their stories are factual. Seems strange that the petition was doing the rounds as Nigel Farage was having his bank accounts closed.

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

Change, org is a joke, you can start a petition on virtually anything

Can I ask if there was an autopsy on the 17 year old before he was quickly buried (as per Islamic tradition), since very shortly after the young passenger talked of the victim being hit over the head with the gun? The only way of confirming this is exhuming the body, which will be a trifle provocative.

I will measure this with the understanding of the resentment felt by North African French citizens. Unlike, largely, the peaceful withdrawal of the British from their colonies, France's was rather bloody and messy, particularly in Algeria.

The relationship between France and Algeria is far more complex and nuanced than anything the UK might have in terms of a 'colonial' understanding/relationship. Algeria was actually a part of France.

The only potential comparison is say Gibralter. And even that is a piss poor example on a variety of levels, not least the fact that your average Gib is probably more pro-British than your average Brit.

Didn't someone point out that GB News is not defined as a "news" station but as entertainment which allows it to bypass all the OFCOM rules around impartiality?

Personally I have no problem with a bias new channel as long as it is clear that they are not pretending to be impartial.

Actually you are right. If I recall correctly Albert Camus was born and bred in Algeria but was in fact a French citizen.

All the North Africans , living in France , chose to live there. For them to hate their host country is them not showing much gratitude and should invite them to leave. I write this as an immigrant myself.... I support the uk or I can leave the uk. The James McClean option is not clever nor peaceful.

When you go to any new country, you must assimilate and play by THEIR rules.
