We won't have '' wasted '' £20m because the upfront fee is £15m.

That and the fact that Johnstone will be leaving.

Johnstone is on a decent contract, any ideas what he is going to bring in, there seems to be no mention of it, anywhere?

Only what I've heard, no idea if it's true, but he has a release clause of £10m apparently.

If he gets the move back to the Midlands which he supposedly wants, then he has a few options although I can't see him being a first choice anywhere unless he drops down into the Championship.

How about we use him in part exchange for Iversen and Iheanacho ?

Why didn’t we keep Butland and put the£20m wasted on Henderson towards a decent Striker?

Firstly, the £20m won't be wasted and

Secondly, because the club didn't know in advance that Guaita would throw his toys out of the pram and didn't think it appropriate to keep 3 potential 1st choice keepers.

You mention Brighton ok look at Brighton yes playing extremely good football highest Premier league position last season in their history. Sold a number of good players and made good profits hit the Jackpot with Roberto De Zerbi. The difference between Brighton and Palace. Palace have the 15th lowest debt in Premiership of 84m
Brighton's £409m debt is the 4th highest in Premier League, as Mar23. Taking into account the profit they made on players i believe 250m they still have to replace the players sold and maybe that debt has been reduced. If Zebri brings more success then he is going to be in demand another replaced manager possibly will not be so successful and then they could fall into the relegation trap with a huge debt around their neck. Sorry to say I’ll take Steve Parish way any day on how this club is run

Ahhh, but who is the lender?
Tony Bloom ( the 99% shareholder ) of course. Merely an accountancy manoeuvre no doubt created for tax reasons.

This is what we never know. Our financial position (accounts aside) have been and remain a total mystery to us fans. We can only guess what is available based on outgoings and incomings but such is the secrecy of some deals these days, even they are guesswork.

Exactly, which means their debt is 0, he could sell the club, clear the debt and still make a profit, which he won't anyway.

I can accept other clubs just being better run than us, like Brighton, Brentford but we've got a great opportunity now and I'd be disappointed if the board didn't jump on it. I can understand in previous seasons with the threat of relegation but this season we must be about 20/1 on to remain in the league. Give Roy the three players he needs and let him have a good go.

“Three top first team players shirt in the squad” - sounds like Roy is either conceding defeat in anymore players being added or another cry for help to the owners

Last I saw we were servicing a debt of around 80 mil. Much to shareholders and some to a bank. It's probably more now. We've been making small losses or just about breaking even recently. We have very tight margins - as is reflected in our transfer business. Still, a lot goes on wages and our Matchday and merchandise income is poor.

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson to BBC Match Of The Day after Brentford.
On making further signings before the summer transfer window closes: "We are working on it. We need some more people in, some more bodies that we can use. The club has always got players in the past, and transfers must be a nightmare for the people who have to pull it off.
"I would much rather coach the team than deal with transfers."
Sounds like RH understands the situation.

You would certainly hope a premier league manager understands how transfers work. Let’s see how understanding he is if we don’t bring any more players in.
