I don't agree. I think we have enough quality that we should not be struggling like we are. Guehi, Andersen, Doucoure, Olise and Eze were all wanted by CL clubs in the summer. Lerma was POTY for Bournemouth last season. Our first XI today was much, much better than Luton's. We all know where the weaknesses are, but in these games we should be doing a lot better. I think Roy has become the problem.

Sadly I agree with you. The last four performances have been awful, including the win at Burnley. Not sure who is available manager wise but we need to bring a new team in to replace Hodgson and Co. Perhaps Potter is the way forward? Today we needed an improvement on the last few matches and sadly it was awful with even our better players looking under par. Players like Richard’s need to be in the back four, even if it means playing 3 centre backs. Ward is now a liability because of his age and needs replacing. There are others but his position sticks out and has done for a while :-(

Going forward it may be time for a touch of realism.

Edouard and Mateta are not going to strike fear into any Premiership team defence.
Ward and Mitchell are arguably the least attacking pair of full backs in the league.
Schlupp can no longer make those attacking bursts of his mid twenties and can never play 90 mins.
Doucoure has been a shadow of the player of last season.
We are weaker than last season because we have not been able to get Olise and Eze on the field together other than for cameos and we have also lost (and not replaced) Zaha.
So far our signings of Henderson, Franca and Holding have made little or no impact.

Much of the above is unlikely to change any time soon so I do envisage an ongoing struggle to pick up results, at least in the foreseeable future.

Yet roll back 3 months to find members of HOL posting that this was our strongest PL squad ever.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

A desperately disappointing result against a newly-promoted team who had not won a home game before today.I am livid and have been spitting feathers.

We have now been beaten in 4 of our last 6 games, the direction of travel is not encouraging.

We have circa 6/7 quality players, the rest just make up the numbers, to get a starting 11, you just can't do that at this level. The teams all round all quality is lowered even further when you get long term injuries and plug the gaps with players who are at best championship quality. The stupid money we wasted in the last window on players who were unproven or we don't need is a fine example of poor decision making at this club.

I could to a degree understand Roy coming back last season for the short term as a temporary stop gap but to put him in charge again for the following season is unforgivable.

I happen to be a Palace fan from 1971 and the last fourteen years I have watched a big number of matches. I will never forget what Ward did on May 27, 2013 in the dying seconds of injury time to prevent a Forestieri equaliser(as a result we were promoted to the Premiership). And I have watched him closely during the Palace decade in the Premiership. No doubt he has been a dedicated servant to the club. But as I have stated in the past, football is business. Ward will be 35 next year and undoubtedly is losing his pace, day in day out. He is always targeted by teams with quick and tricky wingers. In most matches he has been second best to his opponent. Surely the management and the ownership see what everyone else does. So I can't understand why they are so persistent in having him first choice when clearly this is against the team's interests. Please SP and RH do the right thing and forget your sentiments! Its difficult to accept losses by EVERTON and LUTON and 0 points out of at least 4 which would be OK.

I ask myself how easy would it be for our better players to automatically slot in a side higher up the table, a side playing the modern version of the game, and thus realising their own potential? Maybe they would find that with better players around them it would enhance their own game. At CPFC they are constrained by old school dinosaur tactics and team mates with lesser ability. There seems to be no ambition from the board to prove otherwise. After 11 seasons the joke is wearing thin. It's not like we haven't been here before, this comments page is a re-run from Hodgson's last two seasons first time round.

There's no need for a debate over whether our situation is the fault of the owners or the manager, they are both to blame.

The owners had a genuine chance to push us on this summer but the transfer business we conducted was ridiculous. It was the equivalent of my wife asking me to go to Tesco to buy bread and milk and then me coming home with some oven gloves and a set of towels purely because they were marked down. It was buying for the sake of it, rather than necessity.

We've ended up replacing Zaha with Schlupp, three right backs who aren't fit for purpose, one left back who has no competition and therefore gets in the team by default, the most expensive reserve keeper in the world and basically we haven't had a good striker since Glenn Murray.

Roy said a week or two before the season began that we needed more signings. They didn't come and he then changed his tune to we (the fans) should be delighted with the squad.

A younger, hungrier, more ambitious manager would have kicked off about it. Roy toed the line and that's exactly why they wanted him in charge. He is a symptom of the current malaise and frankly why would he care when he's on a one year contract and probably has an eye on retirement?

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Yep.

Roy’s return and extension was only ever reflective of one thing

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
