The second half was chaotic and nerve racking to watch. Thought Ozoh had good touches and but for a howling failure to connect by Mateta in first we would have been 2 up.
Do think refs should not bother awarding us free kicks in middle of pitch, on 3 or 4 occasions, these ended up swiftly back in Henderson’s arms. Would have liked to see them used more positively.

I think responsibility has to lay at the door of those signing players. We really, really needed to strengthen our squad in specific areas in the summer. We didn't strengthen in those areas, and instead spent £20 MILLION on a keeper who is worse than Guaita (who had another year's contract but we allowed to leave for free), £20 odd million on a Brazilian reserve arriving with a stress fracture (?!) who can't get in our team, and £4m on a centre back we didn't need. How on earth can the people involved in transfers still be in jobs? The team needed full backs, wingers and a striker, and got none of the above, and what's worse, those in charge of transfers didn't utilise any loans to fill gaps. We can't use the excuse we didn't have any money, because £44m was spent on people that don't get in our team. How difficult is it to try and sign three or four of the best players from the Championship in positions we need for £5-10m each rather than frittering money in positions we didn't need people? If there is anyone in the recruitment/scouting/transfers team that reads these boards, please just consider actually strengthening the areas we clearly need to strengthen. We only have two strikers. We are desperately short on wingers (hence having to play non wingers on the wing). We have been desperately short on full backs for several years. Please stop signing players we don't need in positions we are covered with money that could be spent on strengthening the team where it desperately needs help.
If we don't have any money, fine, let's sign the best players we can possibly get on loan, free, or being opportunistic picking players up cheaply where contracts are running out.
Please stop signing players like Henderson for £20m odd and on £100k a week. It is brainless. ANY manager would struggle with the recruitment that Freedman et al are providing. I am THRILLED we aren't in the relegation zone and frankly Roy deserves incredible plaudits for the fact that we aren't. Come on Freedman et al. Wake up and do your job rather than waiting until transfer deadline day and wasting money on people we just don't need.

Well said. Why so many will not buy this is beyond me. Many appear blinded by the fact that they don’t like Hodgsons way of using our limited squad, never did and never will..
For me Parish is a gambler . And what has been done and to a degree not done in three windows , and of course we have to throw the next one in for four is his latest gamble..
His gambles have done the unlikely many times mostly with Hodgsons help.
Conventional logic regarding so much of our squad hasn’t been there for a while.

With Johnstone injured, if we hadn’t bought Henderson we’d have had Matthews playing in the last two matches.

Dougie has done an incredible job on transfers in both of his stints at the club.

Henderson is an improvement on Johnstone and Guaita IMO and is also young enough that we will get plenty more years out of him.

Franca has done well in the short glimpses that we have had of him and has huge potential.

Holding was a bargain and is an improvement on Tomkins and also is younger.

We also got Lerma on a free last summer who has been one of our best players so far.

Add to that Guehi, Andersen, Olise, Eze, Ayew, Doucoure, etc. in recent years.

Much over-reaction here.

1) Yes, Brighton outplayed us in the second half, but at the moment they are a superior team who were losing to their arch rivals. So of course they pushed forward.

2) If our most skilled player had handled his chance cleanly, we would have won comfortably.

3) As it was, Wellbeck scored on an improbably miraculous header. Serve him that cross 10 times, and he'd be lucky to strike it with such precision – nicking the crossbar a few inches inside the post – even once. Wellbeck was well marked, and Henderson made a fine leap, but it was a perfect curving spinning shot only a finger's length beyond Henderson's reach.

Next 5 home PL games:

Brentford (No Toney, Mbuemo, Mee)
Sheffield United
Chelsea
Burnley
Luton

There has to be 10 points minimum from that. If there isn't then we are going to be right in it.

Last 15 minutes was quite shambles and very disappointment. I am fine with having respect to Roy and effort team gave yesterday but simply (not specific to this game) counting minutes to have 1 point at home game is not something i would accept. Yes, Brighton was quite structured good but, Brighton, not Real Madrid. Cheering from Brighton fans when 5 minutes extra time was displayed when Palace fans did not like it was summary of the game.

Anyways, if i remove my emotional hat Defence seems to be more structured and we are a bit back to usual but issue is we defence and stop there.

I do not buy Roy`s possible `squad is thin, we need to play like this mindset (if he thinks this way)`. Taking out Ayew had no point. I read that he referred to his possible yellow card penalty but so what? Will never use him again? It is 20 min to go to grab 3 points why risking player who can keep the ball in most efficient way? I was also keen to see Eze (because of my desire to score 2. and finish the game) but for sure he would be removing Mateta? Reason is with this game plan (lay back and counter attack) effort from Mateta will be much inferior to Ayew, if you wish to attack or will be around opponent`s box, Mateta can deliver.

I am not even mentioning that Franca takes no minutes as well. If he will fail, let it be at least he would fail for a period when we could get 3-4 points in 7-8 games..

I am more hopeful for Chelsea game rather than Brentford. We simply have no clue or passion to handle a home game but more fitting to purpose of away game.

I accept the greater part of your argument but where I differ is in what positions we need to find.

It is obvious for many seasons that we don't have a creative midfielder Our mode of playing the ball forward is quick passes to a marked forward. Nobody has the ability to hold the ball to allow time for forwards to find space. Contrast this with Brighton where they frequently found space. I have banged on about this since the days of Cabaye, Michael Hughes, Barry Bannon, Watson, etc.
We have never replaced them, maybe the feeling is that a holding mid-fielder is a luxury? If so please explain to me our dearth of goals. Not a great fan of Edouard or Mateta but if they got decent service they would score.
Protecting a 1-0 lead is a very negative method and one we are not very good at!

Tend to agree , though think Ray Houghton may be a bit peeved at not being included in your list

And we still need a striker

Can I ask others views on Richards now that we have seen a few games of him?
