For Palace people have said Cooper but I would rather someone like Potter. Chelsea was too big of a step for him. But he can definitely be a manager that takes Palace to a realistic next level and that is consistent top 10. Id go Russell Martin (Southampton) ahead of both of them

Despite their new stadium, Tottenham haven’t really progressed as a team in the past 11 years.. What do us and them have in common? Mean, penny pinching CEOs in Levy and Parish!

Yes exactly. Unfortunately would also have to work with no money, which probably rules out 99% of candidates. I am not convinced that Parish would be the easiest Chairman to work alongside ( nowhere near the worst though). Wasn’t it Roy or PV who stated they wish he didn’t comment in public on certain matters?

Potter I expect would come in and not accept amateur level staff or even scouting. Not many people would want to job really it's clear by the way former managers speak they don't like how the club operates.

For me, it isn’t a case of a lack of progression, rather a very very slow rate of progression, almost not able to be seen by the naked eye. We are 3 or 4 signings away from a really strong first team and I don’t recall a time, not in my 30+ years as a fan anyway of us having 3 England Internationals in the squad. There are plans afoot to develop the stadium, which has always been more of a complicated process than it would be with other teams due to the location of the Stadium and the many parties involved in its development, be it directly or indirectly. We have a great academy, which will attract top, young players and has provided us with some talented players (Mitchell, Ozoh, JRS etc) . Bar a disaster, we will likely drag ourselves over the finish line in a low-midtable position, which is the low end of where we should expect to finish. We are still (believe it or not) an attractive proposition for new signings, purely by our Premier League and London status. I would love to see us towards the top end of the table, in Europe etc however the reality of that is, it is so risky, in terms of the investment needed in the squad to have the depth to play the additional games. I’d rather us be in our current position, flirting with mid-table mediocrity (albeit while looking over our shoulders at the relegation spots), than seriously regressing like the likes of Leicester (remember 2015?), Southampton, Leeds, Middlesborough, CHARLTON (less recent but still a tragic example). We can compare ourselves to the likes of Brighton, but it could easily go very wrong for them.

Isolated decision making will always run the risk of causing a stir, and winless runs may come about, drawing much ire from fans. You then have longer term gripes such as the failure to bring in a RB to adequately fill that position, a 'progressive' manager or things/signings which just plainly don't work out as desired (FdB, PV, Meyer, Sorloth, Ferguson etc.). If, big if, by the end of this decade we are still a PL outfit and have a least developed one stand, with an academy producing first team players, that can be hailed as a massive success. The likes of BHA and Brentford can obviously be looked at with envy however their timeline and course of events has been different. We went from near administration and extinction to being a PL outfit quite quickly and have been fighting fires, whilst trying to progress, ever since. They started from a non-PL standpoint and built more slowly with perhaps more stability. As you say, may well go south for them quite quickly and whilst we may bemoan no European campaigns and our very limited squad, our status as a club now is no doubt a far superior one to that it had been in years past... and may yet improve further. Not long ago we were continually fighting a very real relegation battle, now we are considering even just existing above that as 'underachievement'. COYP.

In broad brush strokes, I think the past 10 years we have wavered from solid fairly conservative managers like Pulis to try something more radical, characters like De Boer - back to the orthodox with Hodgson; try something radical with Viera and it wobbles so, back to the consevative Hodgson... A progressive more innovative approach never gains traction and so a rather pedestrian approach to steady the ship gets hastily reimplemented. I think any progressive manager we approach will want (and need) the chance to experiment across a season or more and finances won't allow that.
Be where you are; otherwise you will miss your life. |

Wrong management . As a business I think the investors have had a steady return. So good business in some eyes. For the more elaborate gambler we could have gun hoe and s*** or bust. I would of def gone the latter
