Really then why are we sending anybody there, to learn riot control?

'Wasted potential, weak decisions' I am getting it now.

It didn't do Jake O'Brien any harm... great loan spell there and now a starter for Lyon.

That's not what happened, Tayo never wanted the Coventry move he was on the brink and just wanted to play for us.

A minor rebellion, he was in the naughty chair with Vieira over it.

SP is right when he says that you can't force people.

We could be back in the same territory as when Roy introduced AWB, but this time without anyone who can step up, as we saw with playing Ahamada at Arsenal.

It's pretty poor to spread this about a kid - I'd be amazed if there's any substance to it.

Exactly, it didn't benefit us.

And we lack a commanding figure like Jake.

Other than selling him for a 7-figure fee, obviously.

Good business with Jake O'Brien

Bought or 25k, sold for a mill. Acted decisively. Arguably our best example of transfer dealings.

I think the best outcome would’ve been a new contract, but from what I’ve read he wasn’t keen, so a decent fee is not a bad outcome in context.

I hope we at least have some sort of sell on clause - he looks to have settled really well at a massive club and is rumoured to be included in the next Ireland squad which would be his first time with the seniors. Good chance he gets a move back to England next few years for a sizeable fee.

On the bench for the last 2 PL games, but didn't get on the pitch.

Now loaned out to a Belgian side, he may not be back.

Has Brighty's loans merry-go-round ever benefited us? NO.

Tayo is like a Rolls-Royce compared to Ward or Clyne, they give their best of course.

Not looking good at CPFC

Looks to me like a good move for all parties. Our youngsters who are not currently ready for the first team should be sent out on loan to gain experience and prove they can cut the mustard. He has terrific pace but at the moment not a lot else.

There are some strong teams in the Belgium Pro League so this is a second bite of the cherry for him after the Coventry debacle (no idea what happened there).

Fingers crossed he applies himself well, gets 15 games under his belt and comes back a better player challenging Mitchell for a place in the starting 11.

Hadn't realised Jake O'Brien had progressed so well. Just shows what a successful loan spell can do to your career.

Fair enough - you could also argue we let O'Brien go but it looks like he is good enough and will get better. Taking into account fees and wages we likely made a few hundred thousand. Ok, that seems good - that's life. However, could also say we bought Holding for 4 times asuch, plus we pay Tomkins 50k a week. I'd rather have O'Brien than Tomkins for sure, and frankly looking that way with Holding.
If we'd kept O'Brien and played him, he could have developed with us. He would have played a few times this season already.

I expect he may have wanted to go to get game time. Whenever he played for us, I thought he looked the part. Fair enough, he's not Andersen or Guehi but he's a better squad option than what we have. He also could end up as good as someone like Andersen in a couple of years time. How will our one million look then?
I thought it was short sighted and looked like we were doing Textor a favour. It didn't sit well with me.

Seconded, one million is peanuts now, imagine what it would cost to buy a commanding defender.

All Brighty seems to be doing is prepare our best talent for other clubs, it's hard to even find where they are.

Plange is back, and playing very well, take the 'Plange' Roy.

Our full back problem is now acute, can't think of an answer except swapping around, but this is the Premier League bound to get found out.

Tayo reminded me of Kenny Sansom, bombing up and down the left hand side.

Definitely a speed merchant but a loan could help him. However I wouldn't have been against him being back up to Mitchell. It's another issue for me: Mitchell playing every minute of every game? No wonder he looks a bit jaded.
Think back to the Mitchell who started with our first team. He was all smiles and a bit of a revelation. England call up. Now look - every minute of every game and looks pissed off. No competition. It's not a great situation. We make League one squads look good.

Well exactly. Amy money made on him is wasted on deadwood salaries.

Its one of my major issues with palace at the min, bad decisions. Tomkins is a prime example. Assuming he's 5 choice? That role in the squad could be played by an academy player.

And yep I expected JoB wanted to play first team footie, and he wasn't going to get it any time soon.

Unless the idea was that he spends a few seasons at Lyon and then comes to us, all arms length in terms of price, of course, if not in any other sense.

Lyon are a much bigger club than us but in a much smaller league. The money is right here. That we could buy a developed player like this would be proof of that.

All fantasy of course. He may not develop, Textor may sell up, and Lyon fans and Board may get rather upset (as with Botafogo fans) if they are seen as a feeder club to the EPL.
