Why being a Palace Fan is so much fun!

After spending over 50 years watching and supporting Palace I've never seen them win any major trophy( and no - beating Burnley to win the Championship doesn't really count ). But I've seen them scalp some of the best teams on a regular basis. And when relegation time comes around they really are value for money, often pulling off some of the great escapes. And while the prodigious talent of Eze probably saved Roy's bacon in the short term it's shaping up for another hmdinger this year too!

When you are not in contention for major trophies you have to have something to cling onto. My tag line is One More Point because each season we always seem to be chasing that elusive one more point it's what makes us Palace fans. We never do things the easy way, I can't imagine supporting a big team and worrying about which world class player we are going to sign or will we win one or 2 trophies this season. Don't underestimate our fabulous win at Wembley in the 1991 ZDS cup scarlet. Only Forest have won it since. What a fun day that was. Maybe not a major trophy, but a trophy nonetheless.

But, like you, I'm not bothered about not winning a major trophy. Just being at the 1990 Cup Final (still got my rosette) with my dad was enough for me. The atmosphere we created had never been seen before. That was fun too.

Us old chaps would seem to have a more tolerant and understanding respect for the Palace having been round the block a few times.

Last night's win was fun too.

I always remember my Chelsea supporting nephew saying to me once how can I support rubbish like Palace? He’s in his twenties and has only ever known the Chelsea that’s loaded and winning trophies. My reply was simple, it’s about where I come from for a start, also success for a lot of clubs isn’t just about winning trophies. For us getting promotion is success, which we’ve done several times in my 49 years, then success is about staying up, especially these days. Also the memories of last day promotions, even last day survivals, beating the big boys occasionally and the play off finals, the occasional cup run all the way to Wembley a few times. My Chelsea supporting in laws have got nothing as far as I’m concerned because they don’t go to games, they might have been winning trophies over the years, but if you’re not there to see it you’ve got nothing!! There's an interview with Malcolm Allison where he explains that he played 5-2-3, with wing backs, to confuse Leeds who were so meticulous in their preparation that they would know exactly how Palace normally played. When Palace arrived at the ground Don Howe, Leeds manager, said to Malcolm Allison " we're playing really well Malcolm ". I would also admit I hated every minute of the bus ride back to the station . But yes great times and probably my favourite time following the club around the country . And we still need a striker

Its been said 1000 times we have been on a roller coaster for years , I started supporting after man utd 5-0 , then you learn what supporting palace is all about , after 53 years nothing changed , 6 relegations 3 admins 2 F A cup finals ! zds number of semi finals and going to , over 1500 games home and away and getting soaked , frozen , and bored to death watching some games , would i swap that and support someone else who win trophy's every year ,never in a million years, and i am a Essex boy , so dont even live near Croydon but just love the club COYP
