Those guys are warmer than toast with the kit they wear . With our players and players in general I just think the fitness levels that they are pushed to are not beneficial to playing football twice a week . The modern game is all about sprints and speed and maybe footballers have reached or even passed the limit of their fine tuning .
What they need is some muddy pitches a fry up and a few beers

That's why the ' big clubs ' wanted 7 subs. They can financially afford to pay multi million transfer fees and wages, and in doing so can manage players game time more effectively.

On that note I don't think we are far away from 18 man match day squads with roll on roll off substitutions .

And we still need a striker

Thats a really sound suggestion -
I remember Sir Clive Woodward ( whether you like him or loath him) when in the England Rugby job used to make time watching other sports to see if there was anything to learn in the way that they did things that would in any small way help the England rugby team

Woodward said something like - find 100 things and improve them each by 1% and he was willing to try ideas from different disciplines.
There used to be a news item which came up every couple of seasons about clubs getting their players some ballet training to increase their flexibility which at the time caused great hilarity until they tried it. If it helps then why not?

Niel Ruddock turning up in a Tutu put an end to it

Admittedly that's an image that's hard to erase. Vinnie Jones was a fan of the Nutcracker though.

Some good points and stats here. However three of Brighton’s goal scorers Hinshelwood (1, Buonanotte (19) and Jaoa Pedro (22), all who started, were all younger than the youngest Palace starter Richards (23). To me that’s the problem. When Ron Noades asked why he should sign Vince Hilaire because he is only 17 Malcolm Allison countered that it was the wrong question. ‘Is he good enough’ he retorted.
Therein lies the problem. Roy didn’t want Eze because of age. He put him on the wing then dropped him to the bench. I suspect SP had a quiet word about the £20m spent and the rest is history. Would the 19 year old Olise have got as far as he has if Roy rather than Vieira was manager then? In a way these injuries are helping the youngsters to get some game time despite Roy which can only be good for the future of our Club.

A good point on the comparative youthfulness of the Brighton team. But: if only it were true that ‘[these injuries are helping the youngsters to get some game time despite Roy which can only be good for the future of our Club’

All too often Roy’s first thought is Sclupp or Riedewald or Tomkins while the youngsters like Ebowei are loaned away. Plus, all too evidently, our only partially fit young stars like Ebbs, Olise and JSR!

I don't think he's ever been any Palace's managers first-through since De Boer

I wont say the exactly job role as it would be easy to work out who it is.

But I've got a connection into the sports science dept at Palace. It will be of no surprise that Roy doesn't have any time for data.

And apparently the team have advised, but been ignored on the structure and intensity of training, the overtraining of some players and other issues.

Not fair to go into too many details, and impossible to say this Roy is the reason for x,y,z. But its easy to believe that he isn't cut out for this age of data driven decisions.

Terry Venables as part of his routine took all the players up the pub on a thursday night for a few pints ( limit of 4 pints I believe) and then barred drinking until after the game on the Saturday that was always 3pm ko.
The old game was slightly slower, just as skilful, more mistakes and way more exciting. What we are served these days is getting really desperately boring. As for VAR.....dont even go there.

Finely tuned athletes playing on the edge and beyond over stretching over sprinting faster twisting and turning on perfectly watered grass pitches is all asking for trouble.
Over playing, two or three times a week in some cases. It really has become a game of survival of the fittest as the league tables show.
The perfectly shaped super fit impermeable athletes are rising like cream to the top and end up on big money at big clubs. The creme de lla creme.
Many others, not quite so fortunate end up near the top taking the hits and constantly being repaired. A growing number to be precise.
Sadly our list of injury prone players is long, but we are not alone.

Id agree with this except we do not play 2 games a week as we tend to get knocked out of the cups pretty early and are not playing in europe. Also when did we last have players really sprinting and playing at speed?
