Villa just showed the value of well-timed substitutions bringing on fresh quality players to turn around what was becoming a losing position. We don’t have such options available.

I honestly think that without the mistake by Andersen (and crap follow up from Lerma) that we hang on to that and win 1-0. We looked quite comfortable, Spurs were getting frustrated and the crowd were flat and we had just over ten minutes of normal time to go.

That piece of absolutely shambolic defending, where he had at least 4 opportunities to clear it and couldn’t, cost us dearly.

Fear that's an eternity for us, especially when we're ahead.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Mr Hodgson was pilloried but in the final analysis the overall squad is simply not of sufficient strength, accordingly options from the bench can be limited.

Is this where we are after 11 years in the Prem…worried about Luton, is this how far we have progressed.

Today sitting back after we scored, nothing new there…this new manager has a lot of work to do

In forty years I don’t remember too many seasons when it was anything else!

Let us not underestimate the role of Doucoure in covering for the central defence. He is sorely missed.

I like Dacoure and see that he helps with the defence, but he offers zero going forward, goals/assists. Young and thorn had Thomas and gray in front of them, both helped defend and scored /assisted.
Dacoure/hughes/lerma nothing offensive.

Unfortunately Edouard and Hughes can in no way do the work(or some of the work) Ayew and Wharton do. Even like this if we didn't commit those uncharacterised errors(mainly Andersen) a point was not unreachable. The positives from the game are Richards and what Eze is capable of. Johnstone is and must continue to be the first choice keeper. Most of the other results went our way so it isn't as bad as it looks. COYP!

The system of 343 or 3421 puts a lot of onus on the two central midfield players.
I don't mind Hughes, but don't think he's capable of being one of the two, even as a substitute.
He can't get around the field enough
Wharton seems to have a tendency to tire with his influence waning as the game goes on; understandably as he's inexperienced at this level.
If Lerma gets a yellow earlier in a game this can inhibit him in an attempt to avoid a red.
Essentially we can be overrun in midfield leaving the defence exposed in the latter stages.
If we stick with the current system and are ahead we may need to consider tweaking the system in the second half with the inclusion of an additional midfield player as a substitute.

I don’t disagree, but today Wharton didn’t look as tired which makes me question his substitution? I would have preferred Hughes to have come on and bolstered the midfield alongside him and Lerma. Not sure Edouard was such a good idea unless replacing Mateta? In truth the bigger problems today, especially after we took the lead was Munoz, Andersen and Mitchell looking so tired and making mistakes. Also Lerma after Andersen on the first goal. They both should have dealt with it better and gifted the equaliser for spurs which cost us the game really. Big game next week and I can’t see it being as easy as the Burnley match. Let’s hope we don’t lose it?

Should have brought on Ahamada and Ozoh instead of Hughes and Edouard imo

Andersen needs to pull his socks up

Roll on next week

COmplete nonsense.

Edouard is second highest scorer this season and keeps being put in places like left wing to defend.

Hughes has done a job in many games is he pretty to watch no but is capable if put in correct role.

Wharton does look good but I noticed he is not very quick this is something we really are lacking pace

Eze did hardly anything he scored and the run before apart from that nothing.

This system wont work with current players most of them are not mobile enough yes once this season is over and the fitness work can be started correctly it really will help but people like Mateta you can't make into someone who keeps chasing the ball even Roy understood this.

When we signed Andersen I was not impressed but others praised it I mentioned back then how he was prone to errors look at Fulham and how he fell apart when they really needed him to step up.

The manager really needs to do some research on our players he doesn't appear to understand much about them.

What is going on with Schlupp?

Do you go to the games? Edouard is clearly our weak link. I couldn't believe he was brought on. Its unfortunate but he's not the answer. We need to invest in a serious striker for next season. Ollie has only had two games plenty of time before we judge him. We could have won today and were very close to. Lots to learn from..
