Aaron Martin has returned to Southampton from Crystal Palace after his loan was cut short.
The centre half joined the Eagles in the summer with the view to spending the season at Selhurst Park after helping the Saints win promotion to the Premier League.
Martin, 23, made 17 appearances for Southampton last season and has been tipped to have a bright future.
But he failed to impress in South London, as Palace lost their opening five games of the season and the defender was dropped to the bench.
His sixth and final appearance for the Eagles was as a substitute in the 3-1 win over Wolves on Tuesday, but it was decided that his disappointing loan spell would be ended.
A statement on the Crystal Palace site said: "Aaron Martin has today returned to Southampton after it was mutually agreed to end the defender's loan spell.
"Martin had made six appearances for the Eagles, most recently as a substitute against Wolves on Tuesday."
