Crystal Palace threw away a lead to lose 2-1 at home to Watford.

The Eagles again spurned a number of good chances to score as Watford and it leaves Roy Hodgson's side four points above the bottom three.

Palace were dealt a large slice of luck inside the opening three minutes as Gerard Deulofeu's shot hit the post and Roberto Pereyra struck the rebound back against the upright with the goal gaping.

They took the lead seven minutes before the break after Abdoulaye Doucoure's attempted clearance rebounded off Hornets defender Craig Cathcart and over the line despite Ben Foster's efforts to hook away.

Eagles stopper Vicente Guaita was forced off with a calf injury on the stroke of half-time, with Wayne Hennessey coming on for the Spaniard.

Watford restored parity on 67th minutes after Cathcart headed Jose Holebas' corner at the back post into the net.

And in the 74th minute, Watford went in front as substitute Tom Cleverley powered a volley James Tomkins' clearance off a corner into the roof of the net.

Palace: Guaita (Hennessey 45), Wan-Bissaka, Tomkins, Sakho, Van Aanholt, Kouyaté, Milivojevic, McArthur (Benteke 78), Zaha, Townsend, Ayew (Schlupp 83).

Not used: Ward, Kelly, Meyer, Wickham.

Watford: Foster, Femenia, Mariappa, Cathcart, Holebas, Doucoure, Capoue, Hughes (Sema 19, Cleverley 68)), Pereyra (Masina 90), Deulofeu, Deeney.
