I knew our collective whinging would work! Hopefully this is true. A win tonight and any further news here will certainly change my perspective on things. Of course, I'm not ignorant to the possibility of a loss tonight and for this to be gazumped or fizzle away! COYP as always however.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I am excited too, but temper that emotion. He is a child and needs to step up in a club that selects its 1st XI very cautiously. He is not the Messiah. He's a very precocious boy. I fear the fans will forget the need to give him some space and time. Our CBs were beasts front day 1, but Eze and Olise both needed settlement and the former was sidelined. I suspect Wharton will come into his own just as Franca is coming into his. What a team we will have to see through the last third of the season. [PS We haven't signed him and may not]

Wharton has more experience of English football than Franca but still only 40 odd career appearances so I think, if he signs, would be eased in for the rest of the season with a view to him starting next year. It's exciting times anyway and central midfield options of Doucoure, Lerma, Eze and Wharton would be sensational.

According to Ornstein at the Athletic, we've agreed a deal with Blackburn for Wharton! Still some things to be sorted. Bring it on! Edited by doombear (30 Jan 2024 12.23pm)

Absolutely, going to Chelsea would be career suicide Unfortunately I just cant see this. If we were in a better position, I'd say 100%. Buy and loan him back. However we are in the sticky stuff and we probably need our money spent on first team ready players. ironically if he goes to Chelsea he could end up on loan to Strasbourg!

I wonder if Parish is keen to push this through today so that the atmosphere at SP will be less toxic? Announcing two signings the day of arguably our biggest game so far this season would be a big lift even if neither are actually going to play.

I would, and so would you. Absolutely I would. To me it is good PR irrespective of whether either turn out to be good signings. Get them on the pitch before kick off to wave to the fans. Plus the players may raise their game to put on a show for the new boys. If we had signed no-one going into the game there would have been far more pressure. The Munoz signing alone seems to have got us all buzzing a bit.
