Great Teams awash with hack journeymen Austria Greece, the year they won the Euros. --------------------------- And if anybody wishes to broaden the discussion to other football realms then..... Barcelona, PSG, ManUre....great players. Great disappointment.

That unlike us they can afford to gamble on players who may not work out. They also pay attention to the media profile of a player. Real Madrid were all about galacticos and so were Barcelona until they ran out of money.

I thought Barcelona had to reign in their spending and have a lot of their own talented enough youth in their squad, although I don't particularly follow Spanish football.

Man.City of the late 70’s early 80’s springs to mind. They through a lot of money at it with some top signings, but they didn’t do a lot, an fa cup final defeat to spurs was as good as it got. Even our team of the 80’s beat them at selhurst
