Far right, Southgate, Armstrong and Thorn; at the back Shaw; tracksuited in the centre smiling is of course John Salako. He'd made a premature return from his career threatening injury at the beginning of the season, but sadly broke down early November and needed to go under the knife once again. I seem to remember him having to go to America for specialist surgery using a dead man's cartilage. Looks like he was an unused sub in this game, although actually never made a first team appearance until the following September. Looking at these pictures are quite sad really, because what happened in the following days i believe changed the club to this day. The Sky revolution had just kicked into place and we thought we'd consolidated a 5th year in the top flight. Since relegation, largely due to the differences in finances between the Prem and 2nd tier, we've been unable to secure more than a year in the Premiership. Had we secured survival that year, the financial windfall coupled with the emergence of Chris Armstrong, may have made Coppell stay on and a have a second wave of success. It was still a very strong squad.

8/5/94 Division 1 (Championship) Palace 0 Watford 2 A bitter sweet day: celebrated being champions and seeing Southgate lift the cup beforehand; easily beaten by lowly Watford; but most importantly, the last day of the Holmesdale terrace. Even Ron shed a tear! The crowd was 28,694. The Arthur salutes the Champions
