Went to see jasper carrott many years ago at the London palladium but while in there an announcement was made that Jaspers son had had an accident and wouldn't be appearing, but Paul Daniels would be replacing him, there was a massive groan, and a few people left, but to be honest he was brilliant, and left the stage to a standing ovation. The ultimate professional , RIP Paul.

I don't think anyone lasts that long in an entertainment career without being a great entertainer and capable of working a crowd etc. Its like Bruce Forsyth or Bob Monkhouse, you could absolutely hate them on TV, but put them on a stage in front of crowd and they'd have them eating out of their hands.
