England looked very poor last night, says a lot about Scotland.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

Tells you a lot about what happens if you take your chances, that game. Three shots on target, three goals. And those three shots on target only came about from men losing their markers in the box. Scotland had some decent spells but their final ball and finishing were appalling. As you say the England defenders were there for the taking. 3 - 0 was distinctly flattering. 1 - 0 would've been about fair.

And *that* one was an object lesson in how to pi$$ away a two-goal lead in five minutes.

That's all fine but Stones makes far, far too many mistakes. Rio Ferdinand was also a really fantastic defender, the best in the world c.2002 I would say. Stones is not a fantastic defender (yet), in fact he's a very poor one. Ferdinand and Woodgate were the best British centre back pairing I ever saw. Complemented each other brilliantly. If Woodgate hadn't had knees made out of matchsticks I think it would have been the pairing for a decade internationally (although Terry did fit alongside Ferdinand as well until he decided to racially abuse his brother....)
