We were 4-1 down at half-time in the match that marked the switching-on of the new floodlights back in 1962 and that was against Real Madrid – who we made Sunderland resemble yesterday – but I cannot ever remember being 4-0 down at halftime before now.

That was the one I was trying to remember, was it 0-4 at HT though? Edited by dg1937 (05 Feb 2017 11.10am) Many apologies. It was September 2009 & it was only 0 v 1 at HT.

I've supported Palace for 65 years and I can't recall a halftime 0-4 score line. Maybe it happened in the early 1950s, but I've got neither the time or the inclination to root round in the record books and check. I was at the infamous 9-0 on October 1989, and from memory it was 3-0 at halftime, although I can't be sure. What I do know is that I was a whole lot unhappier driving home yesterday than I was driving back down the M6 in 1989. I have many happy and unhappy memories of Palace over those 65 years, but yesterday was as bad it's it's been. --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Right, after delving into the record books I found this. 20 February, 1926: a Fifth Round FA Cup Tie away to Manchester City. Result: City 11 Palace 4. Palace were 7-0 down at half-time in that game. They drew the second half though!
