As well as watching this as a kid. I can also recall (vaguely)back in my drinking days watching this at 8am in a long closed down bar in the old Grand Central Station, about 20 years ago.

Brings back great memories watching it as a 13 year old in 1966, and not fully appreciating how much tongue there was in cheek in the making of it. It worked so well because it was done and acted in earnest without any nod to irony or tomfoolery.
