Very sad news. He was terrific in his best-known role of Martin Crane in Frasier, perhaps my personal favourite TV sitcom of all-time, but also had a host of acting credits in both television and film. Amazing for someone who didn't start his acting career until the age of 37. Goodnight, John Mahoney, we love you (we love YA!).

Oddly enough saw him in a Foyle's War last night. Somehow doesn't compute seeing someone so well known for a comic role appearing in serious drama. Felt the same about David Jason.
