That's not as bad as I feared, but I was fully expecting someone to inform me that we last scored from a set piece (not including penalties) in 2017. That is a depressing stat, anyway - and a worrying one. Almost as depressing as our defending from set pieces of late.

At lease know what Puncheon has been up to. He has enabled Luka to master the Puncheon "floatie".

My local side, Lincoln City, have two brothers managing the club. One over sees free kicks. It's widely accepted, they invented the "bus queue" corner where attackers form a line-stopping defenders from accessing & pulling shirts etc. Nicky Cowley also looks at other sports, such as hockey, to spot interesting and different corner routines. I'd hope someone at our club has the job of spotting and then applying effective set pieces from all divisions and other sports. Our recent limitations suggest we don't

Palace haven't been really well organised offensively or dangerous at any set pieces since Tony Pulis left. We should have at least 3-4 options of proven set plays that work! Not one (the floated far post ball to Tomkins to head back across to nobody!)

Pierre i think from my original post you have hit the nail on the head. We need at least 4 well rehearsed varied corners to at least keep the opposition guessing. Some responses have mentioned Pulis but i also remember the Coppell years and we scored a lot from near post flick on's and attacking the ball at the near post. If we had this one in the locker or perhaps a short corner to Wilf in the box it will make us more of threat. Agree as well that the delivery is lacking and i personally favour the whipped in cross rather than to just float it up.

Some of my observations are that Delaney was a beast at defending corners and would run through a wall to clear the ball, which we perhaps no longer have? Sorloth is very good at defending set pieces when positioned at the front post (I think it was against West Brom where pretty much every corner they had was cleared by him) but seems timid when attacking them. Ayew can't defend or attack corners/set-pieces. Tomkins' radar seems off this season and he keeps sending great opportunities wide. The one thing that I keep thinking is that we lack aggression. Kouyate has bought that back a bit, but we just seem to be too nice at times. We need to be more aggressive in attacking and defending balls into the box as otherwise I just feel this pattern is going to continue. Perhaps it is a by product of Roy's meticulous planning?
