Hi all, Need to renew my breakdown service for my car and am wondering if anyone has any tips? I notice a lot of smaller breakdown services charge a lot less for seemingly identical services. And they have decent customer ratings. Or am I not comparing apples with apples and am better off sticking with the AA or RAC?

I'm with RAC and always found them to be top notch. Make sure you have all the different types of cover though - roadside, recovery, at home, onward travel. Last time I broke down, I think I heard that if you are with Green Flag, it may be half the price, but they just subcontract, in other words they use whatever local recovery company they can find. At least with RAC (and AA)they have their own fleet of recovery vehicles and staff, so they do have a good standard of customer care. I get free Tesco clubcard vouchers by shopping in Tesco's and buying petrol from their petrol stations. You can use these vouchers (multiplied by 3x their face value) towards the cost of RAC cover, so it costs you less in 'real money'

I will probably go for AA/RAC again, I was just wondering if I'm being mugged off paying the extra.

Green flag worked very well for us for over four years, always very helpful when needed.
