Peter Bankes (37) from Merseyside. He mostly referees in the Championship but was promoted to the top flight in summer. This will be his third Premier League match of the season. Bankes will be a fresh face to most Palace fans, though he was in the middle for our 3-0 win in the EFL Cup at West Brom last season. Assistants: Adam Nunn, Neil Davies. Fourth official: Geoff Eltringham. VAR: Anthony Taylor. Assistant VAR: Nick Hopton.

For information. Anthony Taylor is from Manchester and reckons to be a fan of Altrincham. For the Liverpool match it was Chris Kavanagh - also from Manchester. Not much there for conspiracy theorists to get their teeth into. Here’s hoping we win well without any match-deciding decisions either from the pitch ref or from VAR.
