I am irked. Not about performance or result or anything like that. Belgium's second goal. De Bryne goes to shoot, but our guy manages to kick the ball away first, and de bryne ends up kicking our guy. No studs showing, he kicks him in the leg. Ref gives free kick, ok wtf, goal scored, VAR doesnt check the free kick, or decides it was a foul. Im totally losing faith in football when you can put in a tackle like that, clean, and still give up a foul. Sure the ref might get it wrong, but when goal is scored is it not checked ?

Thought it was an entertaining match and other than the bad pass which gave Belgium the first goal, England’s performance was great. Finishing/final ball let us down but Belgium defended well. Agree about free kick, outrageous decision. Not sure what ref can do after giving it though - is he allowed to use VAR and give drop ball if wrong?

Nothing like leaving Europe, is there? Back to the 70's and seeing England getting hammered all over the place.

I never viewed the performance in such glowing terms. Admittedly England had a great deal of the ball in the second period but by then Belgium were 2-0 to the good and appeared content to sit in and hit England on the break.

Belgium got lucky, both teams were OK - nothing special. The funniest part was the ref allowing Belgium to foul as much as they liked with impunity. Had even 50% of the fouls or cards been given England may have got something from the match. Kane is looking tired. Should have started with Calvert-Lewin. Plus there was no way England were going to win with Walker in defence - failed tactic, please move on.

In hindsight “great” was a bit over the top :-) However, I was for a change entertained watching an England match.

Pickford was not criticised by the pundits for failing to prevent the opening goal even though he got a hand to it,because of the slight deflection it took en-route to him. Over the years I have heard goalkeepers who have got a hand to the ball but failed to keep out the shot criticised with comments such as "He will be disappointed...."

It appears that at free kicks now, goal keepers show the shooter more of one side of the goal than the other presumably because they hope they can’t get it up and over the wall. Given that most dead ball specialists can now do exactly that why the hell don’t the keepers stand in the middle of the goal. Had Pickford stood in the middle he would have saved that free kick because it wasn’t the standard of Eze’s at Leeds which to be fair no-one could have stopped.

Agreed, seen it happening more and more these days and it always puzzles me, you kick the underside of someone’s boot who’s just taken the ball, and you get a free kick, bizarre.
