surely a 1 year deal would make more sense. ...is the wrong answer. Contracts, regardless of length, have buyout clauses that cap the amount of compensation owed (or required, depending on who terminates the contract) on premature termination. Three years is a standard contract. There will be premature termination clauses acceptable to both sides written into the contract.

Barmy idea. A one year contract is an interim manager, it's great if the manager is a failure but crap if he's decent as he will be off with no compensation.

Three years says you have confidence in the new manager and the future of the club, one year says to the players "the ground is on fire, everyone grab what you can and get the f**k out". Interestingly (or maybe not) Nuno got a two-year deal at Spurs, which says to me Levy doesn't have confidence in him. He signed longer deals with Wolves, so I don't think Nuno asked for a short deal. What message does that send to the players?

As others had said the length of the deal is not that important in relation to compensation as there will be a payout clause. Not giving someone a 3 year deal shows a lack of faith.

I agree. 3 years is the right way forward. It works both ways - SP demonstrates his confidence that PV will make a positive impact and PV feels reassured that he has the club's support. And, as for Santo's deal at Spurs it shows neither of the above. That's how I see it anyway. Be fun when we play them! And Arsenal come to that.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

There are likely to be clauses in the contract. For example if we are in the bottom 3 at the time of sacking plus more than 10 games have been played = payout reduced to 1 year maximum. IF there are not any break clauses then it is on Parish, but there will be because he is not a total mug.
