Correct. The brand was originally named after a port in Uruguay. In 1982, at the time of the Falklands War, the company was owned by Brooke Bond.

Masses of Fray Bentos supplies were shipped to Allied troops in Europe during WW2, and troops fighting in North Africa named it Desert Chicken.

So maybe the Fray Bentos guy walked out of the store in bafflement at why his stuff was being singled out.
