Well the last time I saw him play regularly was the season before last for Spurs where he averaged more than a goal a game and looked plenty interested. Everything else just seems to be perception. He was told 3 years ago by Madrid he wasn't in their plans and to find a new club, he decided to run his contract down, play golf and just turn up for Wales, think his made it quite clear he's not particularly interested in playing football.

Because they were paying him £600k a week - why on earth would he walk away from that.

If he were to come to Palace I couldn't see him busting a gut for us and could see him causing disruption in the dressing room because of his attitude to training (it took him ages to get match fit when at Spurs). He's not worth the potential aggro IMO. Treat with the proverbial barge pole. It would be ironic if no-one other than Cardiff wanted him. Would he stoop to playing Championship football? Possibly, if his Wales place would otherwise be in jeopardy.

I'm starting to wonder if Bale isn't finished with football. There's no real smoke about him joining anyone, let alone us. I can't help thinking he knows how to keep himself in shape and his only remaining interest is being fit for the World Cup. I suspect he might take a long holiday and find a club in September that's happy to let him train with them (Spurs?), then just go straight into the tournament with perhaps a couple of Wales friendlies for warm up games. And retire when Wales get knocked out. Does he really need any more than that?
Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God. |

Maybe that's why Cardiff stuck their hand up - he can be close to the Welsh FA, train locally, play locally, take his WFA badges, participate in the World cup & perhaps the Euros after that then become the Welsh National Team assistant manager for a could of years until the managers post next becomes vacant after that. Think it says a lot that it has just been confirmed he has signed for Los Angeles FC to play in the MLS.

Bale in his pomp was brilliant but he is far from that now. It is strange that given the goals he scored, Spurs did not pursue him. Los Angeles is about right.
