i hope we are also thinking loan to buy, if funds are tight Wilf replacement and a striker, most importantly we get to keep all our key players for another year.

If it's true that they're trying to get Barnes from Leicester then that would likely push him further down the pecking order. BTW, when I started this thread it wasn't that I thought this deal was likely just that I thought it would be great if it did happen. We'd probably never get our money back, he'd pick up a few niggling injuries each season and often his tricks would have no end product...but, still, still I really want us to sign him!

I would also dearly love to see him at Palace. He is such a Palace style player and would be a perfect replacement for Wilf. I don't know what he is on at Newcastle but we are actually good payers so this might not be a sticking point.

It appears he’s in talks with an ‘unnamed club’ according to this:- [Link]

But it is the BBC so on their gossip page they name the club. It’s a Saudi one.

We should be all over this like a TV personality on a vulnerable young person.

ASM is just the wildcard type of player we love at Palace and with Zaha's demise and teatime soap opera departure/status he'd fill that hole in the team.

Just my opinion of course not saying this represents the reality however I, for one, would be very very happy were he to come here.

My only fear is our lack of financial power and sincerity to see this through, we should have enough pull for ASM if other clubs are not too competitive for his signature.

If Roy, Dougie etc. are also uninterested I will shout them down proclaiming I know best however again will eventually acknowledge the reality of the ludicrousness of that suggestion.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

We have about as much chance of signing Saint Maxim as i have of being appointed conciliator between Ukraine and Russia

So, Lanzo, when do you start this new job and when does ASM sign for us?

I see that there are reports he is in talks with another club.

For a split second, my hopes were raised.

However, I just feel we will be dining at the bottom table again.

Always remembering walking from the Holmesdale to the Whitehorse end at half time!

Another one Palace have potentially missed out on because of waiting on Zaha. Not that we would have met the asking price

But Sarr, Danjuma, Barnes, Elanga and probably Hudson-Odoi are now also all off the table. Eze is wasted out wide and Ayew may be needed on the right wing

We could end up with a front three of Edouard, Mateta and Ayew. Yikes!

Would have been a good Zaha replacement, he draws defenders to him like Zaha did.
Not got the best end product but neither did Zaha until recently!
Shame we cant compete with Saudi money or actually any other teams money...

Newcastle (Saudi owned) will prefer to sell him to a Saudi club as it's a way of injecting cash into the club to maximise FPL.

Will the Saudi club overpay for him is the question?

One more point

Probably not. Howe has already spoken about that very issue and asserted it will all be above board. The PL will be scrutinizing the deal with the proverbial fine toothcomb and the remaining 19 PL clubs will be watching with interest.

Not sure. He undoubtedly has talent but often appears to be a selfish player who is seldom aware of his team mates around him.

A perfect Zaha replacement, then!
