still "giving it a go" at 50, 5-a-side league. struggle for pace against the young guns, but, still baffle them with knowledge and knowhow. (and the odd trip/bodycheck)! let the head do the work and rest the legs?!!

Still currently running around at 22 for Banstead Athletic. Can tell in a few years my knees will give way. Considering I have played competitive football since I was 7 I think I have done well so far.

Gave up myself when I found clubbing and pubs and all it's trappings when I was about 17. Mates that kept football up have started to retire around the early to mid 30's mark much like the professionals do. I'm early 30's and still hit the pubs and sometimes clubs with vigor. I made the right choice I reckon, if I'd kept the football up i might not have managed to keep up the pub/club habit.
"We love you Palace, we f@cking hate Man U, We love you Palace, we hate the brighton too, We love you Palace we play in red 'n' blue, so f@ck you, and you ... |

32 ... I had ayoung son and another child (daughter) on the way and it was too much. It was a choice about putting my kids first rather than my body giving in!!
They say hard work never hurt anyone ... but why take a chance? |

my last 11 a side game was on tooting bec common at the age of 30,i had switched to centre back from the wing because of my loss of pace due to a leg break and everyone we played seemed to be getting younger and fitter,so once i felt i couldn't even get near them to kick the little fcukers that was it. i did plan on joining a seniors/veterans team, but never got round to it because i'm a lazy bar steward. About 35.... although I had a few games in goal after that. I did a stupid tackle and snapped my right hamstring clean off. Took ages to recover from that. My knees were going anyway and I relied on my mobility to overcome my lack of talent. These days I am totally fcuked in the knee dept and wish I had stopped much earlier. I need knee replacements but am waiting till I'm 60 as they will last longer
