Watching Saturdays match against Stoke it seemed to me that Wilbs is exactly the sort of player that Dwight Gayle needs to play along side. Wilbs wins flick ons, has some classy little touches, holds the ball up well, pulls defenders away and he can give as good as her gets in a tussle. But unfortunately can't hit a barn door. I think that he would make the yard or two of space that Gayle needs to get his shot in. I wouldn't mind seeing how this would work against Wigan. Wigan still have a few useful defenders so it would be a thorough test of a possible partnership for the Prem.

Nice idea for the cup match but you can't leave Chamakh out for the Premiership games. I'd prefer to see a Gayle/Chamakh partnership vs Hull.

Wilbs isn't good enough to be a primary player in a game, I like him, and he does a great job as a five or ten minute back up man to protect a lead and a more valued player. But starting with him ahead of either Jerome or Chamakh would be insane.

Clearly a different Chamakh than the one I've seen at Selhurst.

I love Wilbraham and am very hopeful that Gayle will (one day) prove to be a useful finisher. However, despite some wonderful performances this season from the likes of Delaney, Gabbidon, Jedi and Jules, it is hugely apparent that Chamakh is the quality item in the whole squad and must start whenever fit (in the league). He and Ward may be the only two truly top drawer players...

Why does everyone keep looking at players and not at a team? You can collect the best players in the country, put them in a team and end up with mediocrity. Look at the England team as an example. Wilbs may not be the greatest striker, but that does not mean that he can't be a member of a great strike force. He plays a part, and the parts add up to more than they would individually.

No offence, I like the guy and think in the absence of any better options he can do a job of sorts. But I think Wilbs would be prevented from being a "member of a great strike force" by the lack of his ability to strike.

I think the argument is that he provides the "force" and someone else provides the "strike", kind of like Heskey and Owen.
