Uber - the best taxi service out there ?

So around a month or so ago now a mate of mine opened my eyes up to the world of Uber cabs and I haven't looked back since as they are 1) Cheaper than pretty much any other cab I've booked and 2)Its all managed by a simple app on your phone. I had a look in the app today and I've got a referral code - YPUG7 If anyone types that in when they first sign up they get a free £20 cab journey (and I get a referral fee too). Can't recommend it enough. Anyway if anyone uses it I hope it saves you a couple of quid, if this is against forum rules please take it down and have a google out there, sure there are some other referral sites going. Cheers

It really is a fantastic service. Simple booking process, always punctual, far cheaper than other cab services, and you don't have to worry about having cash. Superior in every way.

Uber sh1ts all over black cabs whose protests I find pathetic. Especially when they highlight safety concerns in their case against Uber. Cos no one ever got raped or robbed in a black cab or minicab... No idea what vetting Uber drivers go through if any but you know who your driver is. Although I had 3 different 'Mohammed's in one night. I would feel sorry for cabbies because there's no way for them to lower their prices but then it seems to be widely accepted that they do a lot better than they constantly moan about (or tell the tax man) Just got back from Spain where they've been banned interestingly. Their cabs are dirt cheap and hard not to find one in the cities. I'm still peed off that I used a mate's referral code who never used Uber, which means I don't get the credit and I can't use another code. Also couldn't get an Uber from Beckenham tonight. No idea what vetting Uber drivers go through if any but you know who your driver is. Although I had 3 different 'Mohammed's in one night.

They're protecting their business model. You're right though, they're blocking progress and choice and that's never a good thing.

Agree fully.
Another thing is that nearly all Uber drivers are foreign and barely speak English it at all. I can see why Black Taxi drivers are so annoyed, They do 5 years knowledge driving all over London trying to remember every road and after passing and shelling out to hire a Black Cab and Insurance they get out priced by a foreigner with a Sat Nav. Would rather pay a couple of quid more and support our own drivers where possible.
