Anyone ever go to this place back in the day? I'd never heard of it until I saw this on The Who's facebook page. Before I was born but a bit of Who history.

Oh yes, very fond memories. The Mike Morton Sound were the house band and there was a great sprung dance floor.

Yes, great memories of that place and the walk home (no night buses) to Waddon in the early hours. Remember the revolving stage which started with a DJ and then revolved to a band who would appear :-) Plus you could walk behind the stage through a tight walkway. Palm trees were a bit strange but gave the place a bit of decoration. There was also that great feeling when you walked down the large stairway into the hall - happy days :-)

Plenty of good Monday night bands. (Tuesdays the same sort of bands & crowd at Wallington Public Hall) All the 60's lot at The OB plus the likes of Otis Redding, etc.

The Monday night was for under drinking age so it was soft drinks only. I remember the tunnel being a snogging zone other than that I remember later it was a dine and cabaret, and I saw a bloke who I had seen on holiday when I was. in Majorca

My Dad was bar manager there and I was born in a flat over a piano shop two doors away at 116a Brighton Road , Purley on Christmas Day 1959. My Dad had done a shift that night and, as was the way back then, waited in the front room for my arrival which was at 1.45 a.m. Never went myself though.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |
