1) 'Withnail and I' - I found it completely unfunny when I (eventually) watched it recently, after years of hearing what a classic comedy it was.

2) 'Bridget Jones's Diary' - utter crap in my opinion.

Please let me have your examples. Not merely movies that you didn't like, but movies that the whole world seemed to have raved about.

Momento - I just didn't get it. I did really try and watch it on the back of some unbelievable reviews but 10mins in, I knew it wasn't for me

I agree. Momento, Se7en, The Prestige, The Usual Suspects, Shutter Island. I like a twist, but these ones were dreadful.

Also Star wars IX was the biggest heap of nonsensical PC trash ever. AND I quite liked episodes I, II and III.

Completely agree re Withnail and I. Was on recently and tried to watch it again having given up the first time. Made it to the halfway mark and that was with real effort - utter sh@t

It's all so subjective of course but one film that seems to be held in high esteem by sci-fi buffs is 2001.
It might have good special effects and nice music but it is slow, boring, tedious, dull and ultimately underwhelming. HAL is the star but this film is massively over rated.

Withnail's ok but hugely overrated. It's moderately amusing in parts but I don't get the whole "cult" thing that surrounds it.

Other overrated or underwhelming films:

Blade Runner
Citizen Kane
Revolver
Forrest Gump
The Krays
The Sound of Music (f***ing detest it)
Braveheart
Singin' in the Rain

You are on my wavelength with that list, except Citizen Kane. I actually think that is good.

Another film where the level of popularity is unfathomable is Casablanca. I have never managed to watch it all the way through.
