Don't worry Jules will sign on for another season...and then another.

On a lighter note - good old Google Translate:

Atlético has contacted Vicente Guaita in order to strengthen his goal for next season. After the departure of Moya to Real Sociedad, Áxel Werner was the second goalkeeper , but the club wants to probe the formula that has gone so well so far. The one of combining a young goalkeeper but already of great level with the experience of another one that has already demonstrated with strength his strength in the maximum competition. That's where Guaita comes in, something like the new Moyá for Simeone. He is seen as a quality goalkeeper who, at 31, would give the staff solidity in a specific position. That does not mean that he does not trust Werner. The club is happy with what he has played the former Boca, but it is also considered that he could use minutes of play.

Guaita and its suitors.
Atlético is not the only one interested in Guaita. The goalkeeper ends contract and was about to go to Crystal Palace a few dates ago. In fact, the agreement is still valid and the goal is still ready to sign. A commitment that would bring between three and four million annual and a duration that could reach up to four seasons. The mattress option is also very attractive, not only economically. Guaita would not change city and would have the chance to fight for everything, including the Champions. The doorman is at the door, perhaps, to sign his last big contract and suitors are not lacking. Al Getafe came free from Valencia, which had reserved a 20% of a future transfer, but this has not arrived. Guaita ends contract with Getafe at the end of this season.

I'm really intrigued by the "mattress option"

Sounds like he would fit in with Tekkers.

Nick Pope or Ben Foster would be better bets anyway.

I remember when, if the Manager wanted a goalkeeper, he only had to shout and there would be a queue outside his door to choose from.

Well it has certainly changed, but this is such a load of hassle surely it can't be that difficult to get a reliable quality goalkeeper.

Thinking of Nigel Martyn coming to Palace I think that was a record price for a goalkeeper but he was an enormous success and long career here.

Not that big a difference between Palace and Burnley. Let's not judge by a single lucky season for them. They'll probably be fighting to avoid relegation next year. Just like WBA did and WBA was a very similar team to Burnley the year before:not many goals scord, but a great defence, a lot of 1-0 wins.

If they have an injury issue up front with their only 2 guys scoring goals (like WBA had this year with Chadli playing just 100 minutes the entire season), they'll definitely be in the red zone.

Plus, it's all about wages. If Palace decides to invest a lot and if it offers Pope a big salary, he'll come. Can Burnley compete? Doubtful. But is there a risk in investing big? Oh, yeah, especially if you get relegated. Then you can go down multiple levels and still be greatly in debt (like it appears for Sunderland)

Hodgson said they had a pre contract deal with the keeper. This is what a pre contract deal means “ a preexisting contract that legally prevents a person from making another contract of the same nature. (formerly) such an agreement constituting a legally binding betrothal. ... Among the New England colonists there was a formal ceremony of betrothal, called a pre-contract or contraction.“ So if he went to Atletico I would imagine Palace would be due compensation. I understand there is a relegation clause inserted into the contract

I remember in our 2004 promotion season and we had Thomas Myhre and then Nico Vaesen. OK it was the Championship but both seemed really good keepers.

I'm bemused at how difficult it is to get someone in.
