Not sure if it’s something the player is even thinking about but listening to him speak after games and with the amount of experience he’s had, would it be worth thinking about Cahill as a future manager? Can’t possibly be worse than we’ve had and seems like a natural leader.

Would actually like to see him in a player/coach role first, being a manager would depend on him having the appropriate licenses

He sounds the part, but it's a big jump. Perhaps see if he could follow the route Freedman did, start with a youth side, get used to managing players and training schedules etc. Unfortunately for him, there is only on manager role, its currently taken, and their are are plenty of more experienced candidates who'd jump at the chance. It's a shame there isn't more opportunities for managers. The ones with the right experience aren't necessarily any good but keep getting the jobs.

I think I was just looking at gerrard, Rooney and lampard as examples. I personally don’t want to see the next one of the pack (Pulis, big sam, Bruce etc) come in after Roy. I keep seeing mark Hughes popping up and I can him getting his turn with us. I think I’m just craving something fresh. Look at Scott Parker and how he’s now getting a tune out of Fulham. With the lack of funds available and if he were to do his badges etc, why not. I do however acknowledge that the lack of management experience is a big problem.

I don't understand why he isn't captain. Although making Wilf captain would reward his effort and might keep Wilf from losing his focus when fouled.

He’d certainly be an asset for the club once he does stop playing. Agreed with earlier post in that a coaching role would be good initially but I can visualise his standing on the touch line barking out orders at the defence for sure. I’ve mentioned in another post about Cahill linking up with Lampard and Morris to form a team once Roy has gone. Young, fresh and exciting.

He looks a nailed on certainty to be in the game for a long time. The players around him listen to him completely. Look how good Wardy’s positional sense was last night. He marshalled Rashford and Shaw in that second half brilliantly. You can see Cahill getting coaching badges in the not too distant future.

Parker has a massively talented squad better than ours yet can't buy a win.

If GC wanted a route into management then I would think that with us having Cat 1 Academy & with several examples of players coming through the ranks already on the staff (Derry etc) we would be a good place to start when he is ready - perhaps managing the under 18s ? - although also to be fair with the number of contacts that he will have built up over the years in other clubs (Chelsea etc) I doubt that he would need to look far for a suitable opening somewhere on the coaching / management ladder.
