This is a charming documentary/voxpop about Brentford over the years. In so many ways so similar to Palace in that they've never won anything significant, have a s*** ground, minimal fan expectations, sold out by Ron Noades, unfashionable etc.. It was great to hear the memories of long-standing fans. Catch it if you can, it was on one of the minor channels (Together TV?) but I think it might be on YouTube now.

Brentford now play in their new ground "Brentford Community Stadium' which is next to Kew Bridge station. It has a capacity of 17,250.

Come on you Bees! Be great to see them in the top flight. As a kid my best mate from school followed them so would watch them whenever we were away. Would have been early and mid eighties. KLM was their stand roof sponsor and Stan Bowles has signed for them. Terrific club Edited by Tom-the-eagle (22 May 2021 3.21pm)

Well done for finding this film Sansbup. A lot of similarities with Palace as you say. Good old fashioned club loved by their fans for all the reasons we love Palace - local, friendly, introduced by dad, better than going shopping with mum, friend at school, unfashionable, always striving and not quite making it etc. I've kept half an eye on their progress for a while and not surprised, and pleased, they beat Bournemouth earlier. Big fan of Thomas Frank and have said so on here before. No way he'll come to Palace though. Especially now. Very sorry we couldn't buy Ollie Watkins - great, strong player. A clever recruitment process. Hope they win the play-off final next week so we can face them next season.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

My grandad, who moved to Chiswick, used to take me to Griffin Park whenever I visited

Owner also owns Mittylland in Denmark, who follow same model

Years ago I lived in Ealing ( Hanger Land)..never made it to Brentford FC..as I am a Palace "nut case".. but always wished them well, as they were the local team..Now, I wish them ALL the luck in the world for Saturday, and would truly love for them to join us in the big league..I would feel as if I was back in Ealing..
Here since 81...(LAST CENTURY !!).. x-Dunraven School, early 1960.... Palace 'nut' since 58.... |
