Fair play to him getting a 3 year deal from them. We were right to only offer 1 year.

The midfield is looking very thin now. An injury or two and we are down to bare bones. Perhaps there are new players coming in?

I see this as one decision that could come back and bite us on the bum. But I do get the policy of offering older players one year contracts. But do wonder if we could have found some middle ground of a one year deal with another guaranteed if a trigger on appearances etc was reached.

Yes have to agree look light in midfield and even lighter up top now with only 2 recognised (and not very good strikers). Plange, Ebiowie and Richards all look like good long term prospects but we do need at least one midfielder and forward who can have an impact now. I had decent hopes for this season but currently think we look very lightweight compared to last season. Think Kouyate was worth a 2 year deal. Will be interesting to see if we only offer Wilf a 1 year deal?

I read that senior players cautioned Vieira against this, it doesn't appear logical.

This does seem to be a very strange state of affairs.

Although I think Doucoure's success (or lack of it) will ultimately determine how much we miss Kouyate I think he was seriously undervalued and he's not so old that a two-year deal should have been ruled out. While the policy about contracts for older players is a good one, rules are only as good as the exceptions you occasionally make to them. Adhering to them too rigidly is as stupid as having no rules at all. Letting him go was not one of our smarter moves in my view.
