We're in trouble for sure, how big it is depends on further injuries.

With the run of games we've got next we'll most likely dip back into the bottom 3.

With players coming back and the run-in after that I'm sure we'll pull away again unless we're really really unlucky.

You never know with football (or Palace!) but I'm not that worried.

I'm thinking along these lines .Even with a full ,fit squad we would be doing well to pick up a couple of points in the next month or so . We therefore have not lost anything. Where we lost points was at the start of the season and not turning some recent draws into wins .
OK we may , probably will drop back into the relegation spots but given our poor start I think we would all have taken going into our final games in touching distance . I'm not that worried either

Well as some have pointed out , which the OP has failed to recognise , we were in big trouble after 4 games and were always going to be in big trouble all season due to the start we made. Roy said as much as soon as he took over.
It's a shame that after all the effort to give us a chance of survival some people just want to use every defeat to moan and groan and slag off the players , the chairman and question Roy.
Roy should really have not bothered and left us adrift and useless at the bottom , there would be less moaning then as certain posters obviously want to be right about us getting relegated. Don't know what they would do all day though, they should think about that.

We have an entire team injured , we are in poor form but still have taken 5 points from 5 games , if we take a point a game from rest of season it could be enough to survive , we are 14th and 5 points off 10th place which is all quite remarkable in the circumstances.

This should be enough for us to show a bit of spirit and get behind the team , but no let's roll over moan about it, some of the players being questioned by some for not trying show loads more courage and fighting spirit than some of our 'fans'.

There is a case for letting off steam , but this has got to epidemic proportions for some .

I really believe this is a work of fiction to rival 'Harry Potter'.Dear oh dear.

Kindly do NOT confuse with trying to be realistic and being hugely concerned with our plight with wanting to be proved right and all that hogwash. What matters is NOT being proved 100% correct but avoiding relegation and passionate supporters like myself and others desperately want us to survive irrespective of our predictions on here.

Yes and our sheer love and passion for the club does manifest itself in "Letting off steam" and all that pillaver. We love the club - we want us to survive, and I for one would dearly love to be proved wrong, as I have been in the past.

The problem for me isn’t whether or not we stay up. The problem for me is us simply not learning that playing the style of football we did yesterday will never lead to any form of progression results wise in the long term. We’re so utterly obsessed with generating hysteria over a short period of results, good and bad and we never take a step back to look at the bigger picture or general long-term plan for the club. The fact of the matter is, Parish & the Yanks are directionless. The only reason we’re still here is because they’ve thrown money at it and hired managers to keep us up and give us an artificial sense of unsustainable success.

When we’ve played with the ball this season and shown a bit of nerve we’ve given everyone we’ve faced a problem, yet we still insist that we have to play such garbage and are then surprised when we’re up against a desperate scrape for survival again. We are not gonna come away from these types of seasons unless we actually embrace some sort of change & accept that taking 2 steps forward will almost certainly mean we have to a step back first. Parish needs to have some bottle to do this, but he just doesn’t. He’s obsessed with looking good on paper.

Without taking this process to drastically improve in possession of the ball and having the ability in order to have some form of control over our own destiny in matches, we are going to go down. It’s just a case of when, not if and with Parish at the helm & the attitude of some of our supporters, I’ve simply lost confidence in this ever taking place in the current PL reign. That’s why I don’t share the same hysteria during good and bad short spells anymore, because I can see beyond the smoke screens that nothing is changing and the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting a different result.

I know the media shove down our throats how amazing and difficult the English league is and how it’s so different to everywhere in the world of football but look at the game all across the world. Teams who have a mindset of soaking up pressure and playing kickrush are never relatively successful for a sustained period of time. They’ll have their moments of course, but the chickens will always come home to roost in the end when you play a style that effectively leaves your results to chance.

As objective and well meaning as your post is, it sort of harks back to what FDB's plans for the team were and we just can't afford to buy the players of sufficient quality to play the style of football that you refer to. We thought we had an opportunity when we first signed Cabaye, but unfortunately we needed 3 other players of his quality at the same time to implement a change of style and this we could never afford. There is nothing wrong with the style of football we play however, what we should have done in the window IMO is buy a couple of the best wingers we could afford (along with Sorloth) and play to our quick breaking strengths rather than try to pass it upfield through players who are going to have a poor success rate doing that.

Rooney/Sigurdsson were excellent yesterday and ran the midfield but they still spent a lot of time looking to utilise Walcot's pace over the top, so they too see the merit of pace down the wings.

If you want to build for the future and slowly evolve a style then fine, however we don't have the money to do it all at once and we do spend most of our time fire fighting, so we play the way that we think we are going to get the results we need.

I am not arguing with you by the way, I just feel that it is impossible without a more or less complete change of squad to do what you have suggested.

I think you also need the same manager in place for a few seasons to achieve that. And we haven't been able to do that for some years now.

Currently all the teams that are on 30 points are probably safe. That leaves the 8 bottom clubs in the scrap. We are unlikely to get any points from the next 3 but after that we have a favourable run of games.

As long as we still stand a chance of staying up after the next 3 games we might be OK.

Currently Bournemouth who are on 31 pts are losing 1-0 to an early Huddersfield goal ! Perhaps Bournemouth now feel relatively safe and whilst they might feel under less pressure as a result, can lead to a degree of complacency.

I believe I have mentioned before, I cannot see us picking up too many points in the next 5 games - we just pray that our rivals also go through a somewhat barren spell during this period.

Let's hope Bournemouth turn it around and the Toons and Soton lose, currently 1-0 to Huddersfield.

Awful defence and a striker that can't score.

Don't matter what other teams do when we can't even win a game!

For me it’s an attitude shift that has to occur and it’s the acceptance that we will inevitably have to take a step back to take 2 forward. I don’t accept the FdB soundbites that we’ve become accustomed to hearing as no one knows where we would’ve ended up under him, we never gave it a chance, but let’s not open that can of worms as the HOL is hardly a place sympathetic to anything beyond results.

I don’t think we don’t, or at least haven’t had the resources to achieve this. It’s a culture thing, an identity. It’s all well and good saying this is the “Palace way” but no one actually knows what that means. Whatever it does mean is a hopeless scrape for survival every single year and a pat on the back for everyone thinking we’ve come a lot further than we actually have. It’s all artifical and short term.

In the last 5 years we’ve had the 5th biggest net spend in the premier league, which is quite staggering when you think about it. But the return on investment we’ve seen exposes the complete lack of understanding of the modern game and lack of vision for the club coming from Parish and the yanks. I accept the last transfer window was shocking but I fully expect us to compensate in the Summer if we do survive. Spending money isn’t the problem. For me, our problems go a lot deeper than money and the aimless throwing s*** at the wall and seeing what sticks and how long it sticks for is exactly what we need to come away from. There are deep rooted and ideological attitudes rife at Palace & I never really saw that until we came to this crossroad. I don’t remember such negativity, not in our last PL reign or ever towards trying to progress footballing wise. I think its partly a societal media thing but was also partly birthed from Pardews attempt to “play out from the back” (and that’s a very generous way of putting the chaotic nonsense he served up) and I fear that whole debacle will be a stain that’s difficult to ever remove from the clubs strategic processes which is a shame.
