No he didn't. He shot them in the back as they were running away. That's not self-defence. He was found guilty, so that's what the law says. That he claimed self-defence, and you agree, doesn't make it so. Perhaps they were running to get weapons or to bring reinforcements! Edited by georgenorman (12 Apr 2022 6.55pm)

We clearly don't agree. Nor do most others here. I find it amazing, and appalling, that anyone can try to defend an illegal act, whatever their personal belief that it ought not be illegal might be. The whole basis of democracy is that we are free to behave as we wish, so long as we stay within the law. Not doing so, in any circumstances, is the thin end of a very dangerous wedge and ought, in my opinion, be something that every responsible citizen resists with the utmost determination. Martin was shown understanding and clemency, but he was The other day, you were making a case for historical slavers and those that benefitted from it being retrospectively vilified for what was a legal trade. Surely, a man should be allowed to shoot someone who has invaded his home in the back, front or where ever. What would you do?

I've still very scant knowledge of Le Pen, but had no idea she had shot a few burglars, murdering one, all whilst masquerading as a Cambridgeshire farmer! I've heard it all now! Also actually, for what it's worth, I would like to know what the correct order of ceremony is once burglars enter your home in terms of establishing barometers of violence etc and how these are lawfully agreed. I only think it fair all parties understand what is and is not fair game and I have no idea why home invaders should be so maligned as to not think you could hold a reasonable conversation with them

She's a shape shifter, but if you look closely you can tell it's the same person.

I don't have to in fact BlueJay, my specs won't be ready until Friday (I need very nerdy lenses so have to wait longer) so I still have a warm, comforting, fuzzy view of the world for now and I can therefore see the similarities without being distracted by finer detail!

You need a pair of specs from the Sci-fi Classic 'They Live'! to really see what's going on.

I was looking for Q however given my aforementioned situation I've now delved down the unintended rabbit hole and feel it's too late to back out now.

The law requires that any response be proportionate. You might think what he did was, but the jury, and the appeal judges did not. If he had been physically threatened then, perhaps, a claim of self-defence would have succeeded. Shooting them in the back whilst they were running down the stairs to get away didn't. What your opinion of that might be is an irrelevance. It's a fact.

I only think it fair all parties understand what is and is not fair game and I have no idea why home invaders should be so maligned as to not think you could hold a reasonable conversation with them It started yesterday after I compared an event that Macron commented on, which has been picked up by the right in similar fashion to here, to what Tony Martin was convicted for. The barometer is clear. Any response needs to be proportionate to the perceived threat. People under pressure may not act rationally, and that is a legitimate defence. In Martin's case he obviously failed to convince the jury, whilst the appeal judges decided he did not intend to kill he still acted illegally. I realise how nasty it was for him, but the alternative of him "getting away with it" were potentially nastier. If we ever accepted what he did as a legitimate defence of property, the floodgates could open.

I've kept a distance from Q Anon on account that it's clearly all in hand. The veil will soon lift. D, while close to the flame clearly does have knowledge of both Hillary's secret baby blood infusions as well as low, low highstreet prices. Some say the same about prophet VC.
