If we back off Arsenal and look like the proverbial lambs we will be slaughtered.

If we’re to stand up to them a bit and have confidence in ourselves we could well rattle them enough to cause an upset.

I hate it when we do that, I’d sooner get beaten having a go and getting stuck in than standing off a team watching them tippy tapping the ball around before they eventually open us up and score anyway. We did it a lot in Roy’s last season and we took a few good hidings.

You’re spot on as well, Arsenal are still a bit flakey, Forest proved that second half, let’s rattle them by getting stuck in and attack THEM.

Brentford and Spurs both dropped 2 points today. Chelsea and Liverpool are drawing so hopefully will do the same. The table is shaping up nicely!!

Let’s not go overboard with our win. We had our strongest team possible on the pitch and could only score once against a team that would have been beaten by all the prem teams yesterday. Other than those promoted in my opinion? Corners we conceded yesterday May have resulted in goals scored with much better quality players attacking them against us. Really pleased we won but our squad is weaker than last season at the moment and we were fortunate to have drawn a poor team (presently) as our first match. Plus for me was Lerma and the work ethic of the other 10 but I’m not going overboard until we have some more incomings before the end of the window. And those incomings need to be first teamers dropping some of yesterday’s team to the bench. Still loved getting 3 points away but it was only Sheffield Utd :-)

Exactly this. If we want to be playing PL football next6 season we have to beat the Sheff Us and Lutons both home and away. They are both strong favourites for relegation and we usually do the double over relegation fodder (both Leeds and Southampton last year and 4 points off Leicester).

Yes it was good that we controlled the game well.

We'll get some idea of where we are in the pecking order once we've played Forest in our 8th game. I would want to see us with 14 points by then.

One of the telling takeaways from the game was that once we took the lead Sheffield United never looked like scoring whereas we were still creating chances. Our ball retention and concentration were very good.
Lerma and Doucoure look formidable as a midfield block and meant our defense and goalkeeper were not really worked.
With this sort of line up it does give space for the full backs to get forward and if the rumours are true and we get Lewis Hall on loan he will be perfect for this system.

On the Eduard performance i would say he took his goal well but he has got to learn how to stay on side. He often only seems to be aware of the player on the ball and then makes a run to receive the pass only to have strayed into an offside position as the defence stepped up.

A good solid win but what concerned me was that Eze seemed to be trying to do too much at times and gave the ball away a fair few times. It was similar to the Lyon friendly. Last season he seemed to know when to pass and when to take it on himself. With Olise injured and Wilf gone I worry that he he now sees himself as needing to always make things happen and that's affecting him. He still played ok and had a couple of nice moments, but Sheffield Utd were poor.

.

There is a lot o talk about Eduard being off side , what about Ayew's off side goal . A footballer of his experience should know better

I think to absolutely fair to all players experienced or not, offside is measured in microns these days and is decided by technology and therefore it is impossible for players to be sure they always time their moves to ensure that are always going to be on side!

Good win and performance for first game of season as a possible banana skin. Lerma looked good. Great bit of business like Docoure last season. If we take our chances, a large if, and we don't make silly errors like Forest feel we could well get something against Arsenal. COYP !!

When Olise returns, the Brazilian kid is injury-free and Lewis Hall take over from Schlupp on our left side, we will be a very good PL side.

Fair point, but Edouard was about a yard and a half offside. Ayew about half a yard.
